Antoine Winfield - DB - Free Agent
ESPN 1500 Twin Cities doesn't expect free agent CB Antoine Winfield to re-sign with the Vikings.
Winfield hasn't given up on returning, but it remains doubtful that he would consider taking less money to come back. He met with the Redskins on Wednesday and is reportedly drawing interest from "at least two other teams." Beat reporter Tom Pelissero suggests the Seahawks and Browns could have interest.

Yes it is. Come on browns, get your head out of your ass.
If he doesn't come for a good price, no thanks. No need to overpay for a 30 year old coming off an achilles tear. The only potential down side in signing Grimes is he is coming off a major injury. He will also turn 30 on July 19. Many times cornerbacks start to regress early in their 30’s, even without suffering a major injury.

I think he knows that he's coming off a rough injury and entering his age 30 season. While he's going to want to capitalize as much as possible, I think the Browns could still grab him with a franchise friendly contract. The Dolphins seem to be pursuing him heavily, but we need to make a deal happen. We CAN'T go into the draft with our #2 CB being Buster Skrine, because that almost assuredly means we're going Milliner or we're going 4-12 again.DeyDurkie5;1415758 wrote:If he doesn't come for a good price, no thanks. Lot fo ppl don't think Milliner gets past the Lions. Hope so. Not as huge Milliner fan, rather get a CB that slips in the 3rd/4th round and get a fucking stud starter on the lines in the first round.

I agree. At this point, I want Warmack at 6, period. I really haven't found any consistent complaints that NFL scouts have about him, and several have compared him to Hall of Famers. The best thing you could do for a second year quarterback is give him a superior offensive line, and I'm sure TRich wouldn't complain at all either. We need to make a deal and sign a FA corner so we can focus on our offense early in the draft, and then maybe grab a corner later on.Commander of Awesome;1415768 wrote:Lot fo ppl don't think Milliner gets past the Lions. We've also signed a few other CBs this off season. Skrine would not be the #2 CB at this time even without Grimes. I'd bet Kevin Barnes would be the #2 CB right now. I agree with the guard, the NFL game is all about the trenches. Dominate the lines and the rest will fall in line.Dr. KnOiTaLL;1415769 wrote:I agree. At this point, I want Warmack at 6, period. NFL teams have proven to me over the last few seasons that you can't build a def ass backwards. Bit the Eagles in the ass. No thanks on a #2 CB at the 6 spot, Horrible value, not a play maker, bad hands, stiff hips, etc... I think he'll be a good player, but he's def not as good Haden, not as good as clairborne last season and he's not a difference maker on this defense IMO. He doesn't change the scope of this defense. Now an ELITE pass rush, pin the ears back have to account for at all times on this defense does. Look back in time at the elite Defenses. 2000 Ravens, remember their corners? Me either. I remember Ray Lewis, they're dline, ball hawking safety.
Steelers defense. Remember their elite corners? L O L
It was about their Dline, ball hawking safety and ELITE fucking pass rush.
CBs on the 49ers? Hell no, its about their dline and elite pass rush.

I agree to an extent; however, Carlos Rogers is a stud DB for the 49ers and has been for several years. Ranked above as the 6th best corner in the NFL last May. The biggest problem with our pass rush is that we don't have the guy who has consistently brought it. We've seen glimpses of ability in Sheard, Rubin, and Taylor, but Kruger only really stepped up late last season. In fact, I'm kind of worried that we might have overpaid there. I like the signing, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I love what we've done so far securing Desmond Bryant and Quentin Groves in the front 7 (even though Groves will likely be a rotational player), but I'm still very worried about our defensive backfield. Yahoo! and Ourlads.com have Skrine opposite Haden, and even with the addition of the two corners, neither has had success in the NFL thus far.
What are your thoughts on Tyrann Mathieu? The guys character is obviously an issue, but would you be willing to take a risk on him in the 4th? He has definite big-play ability on defense, and could admirably help fill the loss of Cribbs on special teams. Just a question, not endorsing either way.

Shrimp that has more media coverage than production. Great return guy, mediocre in coverage IMO. Plus he's about mature as Rock and is taking pot. Money is clearly a concern for the Dolphins. Hopefully it works in our favor and we can get him for a good deal!
Brent Grimes - DB - Falcons
According to the Miami Herald, free agent Brent Grimes "remains on the radar" for the Dolphins, but "they're not breaking the bank for the guy."
Only the Dolphins, Browns, and perhaps Falcons appear to be in the mix for Grimes at this point. The Buccaneers have dropped out of the hunt. Per the Herald's Armando Salguero, the Fins "have some confidence" they'll win the Grimes sweepstakes, and the sides are "slowly" trying to make a deal happen.

And dumb enough to do it when he knows he's going to get drug tested, kicked off an SEC team for doing it, and continued to it. Bonehead.derek bomar;1416411 wrote:lol. "taking pot" - I'd venture to guess about 75% of the NFL is partaking

Dolphins sign CB Grimes to 1-year, $5.5M deal

Dolphins signed CB Brent Grimes to a one-year, $5.5 million contract.
The best remaining free agent cornerback is now off the board. Despite turning 30 later this year and coming off a torn Achilles' tendon, Grimes actually got one of the better contracts in this year's pathetic cornerback market. (To no one's surprise, the Dolphins paid above market value --again.) The deal includes $3 million in guaranteed money. When healthy, Grimes is one of the league's better cover corners and is a much needed upgrade for a Dolphins secondary that ranked 27th against the pass in 2012.
