You also said this, and I'll quote you for yourself:

Incorrect. That's not even close to the only thing he did wrong. He tried to put his football team above a rape case. Any player rumored to have been there and took pictures/videos, tweeted about it, etc. should have been suspended. He didn't do a damn thing. When the police were begging people to come forward with information, Reno should have told his team that anyone involved needs to step forward. He didn't. He went to be a character witness for the two kids that did this. The man is a piece of garbage in my book. And I don't care if he was at Steubenville for 60 years. He deserves to be fired.

Who gives a damn how many years he's been there? Hell yes he should be fired. No, I take that back. We shouldn't even be having this conversation. He should have been fired a long time ago! It's not even up for debate in anyones eyes except Big Red fans. Don't act like Reno didn't know what was going on. He is a god in that town and he knows just about EVERYTHING that goes on regarding his football team.

I quoted him on jjHuddle about some things he said at the Boosters Club meeting. I didn't quote anything sensitive about the team. I just talked about the schedule.

FairwoodKing;1352004 wrote:Why does the Reno situation have to black or white? Reno is a very complicated person with many shades of gray. I am the first to say that he handled the rape case very poorly. He has a reputation for being very protective of his boys. This time he went too far. As far as his treatment of the reporter, I don't like reporters. Reno has a big mouth but he is a very peaceful man. He wouldn't hurt a fly. As I have already mentioned, he once threatened me in front of the entire Boosters Club. He came storming into the room yelliing, "Where's Fairwoodking?" So much for him not doing the internet. He never laid a finger on me and I knew he wouldn't.

On the good side, Reno has been very kind to people who needed kindness. He was extremely kind to my elderly father. They were great friends. Reno would sometimes ask Dad what Big Red football was like in the 1920's, '30's, '40's, and '50's. Dad saw all those teams. Reno would ask what the lineups were like, what kind of players they had, what the competition was like, etc. But Reno's greatest accomplishment in kindness is what he has done for Matt Firm. He has treated this boy like a king and has done everything possible to help him.

Reno deserves to keep his job. This has nothing to do with football. You don't fire an employee of 30+ years just because he made one foul-up. I don't like him, but I'm on his side. If you choose to disagree with me, that's your perogative. But I'm not changing my mind.

Hello, Jim Tressell is calling to Thank You!!

Not all Steubenville people feel the same as fwk and some others on here/jjhuddle.

It didn't seem obvious when you said,"It seems like none of you..." but thanks for the clarification. Seriously.

It's disheartening that some defend the alleged offenders and Reno. Some have even stooped so low as to discredit and criticize the alleged victim. SMH

As a resident of Steubenville and someone who has been following the football program pretty closely in the past decade and from afar years prior, Reno should be done. Reno should have been done already. Along with theSuper, Principal, etc.

The program won't be getting any more of my money, that's for sure. I won't be attending anymore games until they clean house.

Don't know about Reno but Rocky Pentello at Westerville South has probably cocahed his last game...brought a gun with him to threaten his ex-wife and spent Christmas in jail. Not the best time for a teacher / coache to bringing a gun around.

This is where I must ask, how did it have nothing to do with football? It was 2 players on his team that were arrested, correct?

This whole story is sickening. Where's the moral outrage, Steubenville? Put your laptops down and go to a School Board meeting to tell them all these clowns need to be fired. Does one misstep warrant dismissal after 30 years of service? Of course. The fact you question this tells me you have the value system of a banana slug. Way to represent, Steubenville. You people are human garbage.

Who in hell are you to judge us? I've done a lot of hiring and firing in my life (none of it having anything to do with football), and I would never fire any 30-year employee for making one mistake. Your values are screwed.

This Reno clown needs to go! He is exactly what's wrong with high school football. Dude is an embarrassment to the coaching profession.

And I quote

Hey hypocrite. Who the hell are you to judge that young girl that was raped by the kids you support? If you wouldn't fire a 30 year employee that is acting like football is more important than rape, and you think their actions are OK, then you are a pitiful human being.

I'd shut up about anyone else's values, because you clearly have none.

Not saying the situations are exactly alike but JoePa only made one (big) mistake....he was about as revered as a coach can get and he got fired. But apparently Reno is above reproach.
