Iowa travels to the Big House to take on the Michigan Wolverines. Iowa is not good, but seems to have the Wolverines number lately, having won the last 3 meetings. Robinson is expected to be out again, save for a few plays to honor him in his last game at Michigan Stadium.

Michigan shouldn't have a problem this week. I say Michigan by at least 14, but wouldn't be surprised if closer. Northwestern gave Michigan fits because of the option, which they struggle defending. But Iowa will not present that this week.

No way does Ferentz get fired, even if he loses these last two games. His buyout is enormous and I doubt the university is willing to take on that financial burden (it would be about $250,000 a month, every month, until January 2020, or $3 million a year).

He signed a 10-year, $39 million contract in February 2010: http://hawkcentral.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ferentzcontract.pdf

If he is terminated "without cause," that is, without violating rules/without being physically unable to perform his job, he gets paid 75% of his guaranteed amount (base salary [~$2m per year], plus supplemental payments [~$1.5m-$2m per year]) for the remainder of the contract.

Well, Iowa deserves what they are getting then.

Oh, absolutely, it's a ludicrous contract - conceived solely because when Cap'n Kirk went to the Orange Bowl, everyone thought he would ditch Iowa for the NFL and Iowa foresaw themselves sliding into mediocrity as a result, so they gave him an offer he essentially couldn't refuse. Turns out they slid into mediocrity regardless.

I would love to see them bite the bullet and end up paying for, essentially, two top-tier football coaches for the better part of a decade because it would cripple their athletics program, but I don't see it happening.

Michigan 42 Iowa 13. Iowa will be decent again in a year or two, like most of the B1G teams this season they play a lot of young players. Ferentz has always been loved by the media and thus over-rated as a coach. As for deserving what they are getting, they are getting what Iowa has always gotten good some years, bad some years. They are not an elite program.

I'll agree to this. Iowa has always been the type of program that rebuilds, develops, and is good in a cycle of 3-4 years. Unlike Michigan, OSU... they don't get elite talent every year, so they develop the 2-3 stars athletes they get into solid players that fit the "tough nose" type of system. I think Hawkeye fans are ok with this cycle.

Sucks that Denard won't be able to play in his last home game at Michigan. That dude has represented the UofM better than any athlete in memory.

I would not be surprised to see him on the field in some fashion, even if for a token play.

If that game ends with Michigan in the victory formation, I full expect Denard to take a knee.

I'll say one thing for Gardner, he's got Denard's "let's just throw this thing up in the air and hope one of our guys catches it" play down pat ;)
