Yes, but if Meyer gets more of the top tier guys from out of state, he can't get as many in-state guys. This would leave the door open for Tress to get alot of Ohio talent.

I think we were talking about two different things, both involving Meyer and Tressel, and I see your point. I was comparing the two, while you were saying how one's style may benefit the other.

Historically, Kentucky is dumb. They don't recruit Ohio. Many within the University, especially Rich Brooks (and Joker Phillips, who is a Brooks protege), are not well-liked and have not developed or even really attempted connections with the premier programs in the Cincinnati area. This is a natural recruiting ground for UK, but instead, many of the kids go to lower/middle-tier B1G schools, Cincinnati, Louisville, other Big East schools or even slip to the MAC.

Amazingly, Kentucky recruits very well in Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina. They have also had some success getting some players in other southern states that you would think they wouldn't have a chance at. I've always thought they should recruit Southern and Central Ohio more because they can offer SEC football yet still allow a geographical proximity that a B1G or Big East school could.

Southern Ohio, 4 players
Central Ohio, 4 players
Northern Ohio, 3 players

That's amazing. One of the top 10 states in quality and volume of talent is less than 2 hours away from campus and they have signed 10 kids out of Ohio in ELEVEN YEARS. This is a major flaw, IMO.

I think that their historic lack of success hurts them from being able to recruit the top talent in Southern Ohio but I would have thought that they could do better than 10 kids in 11 years and were any of the 10 even elite players?

A few were solid.

Chad Anderson at Canton-McKinley was a 3-year starter for UK
Michael Hartline was an average QB, but did start for 2+ years and did play in 3 bowl games
Chandler Burden was an above-average guard who just graduate a few years ago

Anderson and Hartline were from Canton. Burden from Cincinnati. Of the list, those are the only 3 who really contributed. With that said, it's not even about the quality. It's that they don't even pursue and/or have a chance at the 3 and 4-star kids who as I said, end up at Louisville, Cincinnati, other Big East or B1G programs. They don't even need to beat out the likes of Ohio State, Michigan or Notre Dame, but there is zero reason they can't recruit as good or better in these areas than everyone else.

Lets also not even discuss the kids from Kentucky, an already poor state for talent, they have missed on...that's another story. The Ohio thing, specifically Columbus and Cincinnati, is something that baffles many UK fans when it comes to football recruiting. You need to at least have a strong presence in those areas, I don't care if you can't get half the kids from the area.
