Ubaldo...5.41.

And those two pichers are young, both battled through injuries last season.

Ubaldo had been struggling for most of his career when management pulled the trigger on that deal. Probably the worst trade in over a decade.
Career ERA for White is over 6... It's over 5 for Pom.

Thanks.

Not to mention selling off STO for a tidy profit.

Still, they didn't pocket the money. They went out and got the best manager available, added some key players and made a big trade which has 'positive' all over it. Then, when the budget was spent, they went out and got one more( Bourn).
In the past, I've been all over these guys and especially Dolan for the great salary dump which was all about money and made zero baseball sense, as we got close to nothing for the talent and salaries we unloaded. I've been critical of the team in identifying critical needs and not addressing them and for the owner who refused to step up to the plate to address those needs.

Well, this year they did what they should do...and they get credit for that.

I'm not arguing your point. I agree with everything you said. My point was they had the money available because of the contracts no longer with the team. It's not like they dug deep to sign the players that they did. But, they do get credit for the needs they addressed. For once they did the right thing. And I think a lot of that is due to fan backlash from previous seasons. Plus, landing Francona put the pressure on them to give him the players needed.

No doubt having those 2 and even Fausto on the books hurt the team's finances. Any team that spends 1/3 of their payroll on dead weight is going to hav a crap product on the field. Hopefully Swisher and Bourn remain healthy and produce to their previous levels.

I'm just hoping for a winning/exciting season. I'd love to be in the hunt for one of the WC spots, then who knows?

I agree. I'm just a little bit surprised at the sudden change of heart by the otherwise cheap Dolans. I'm hoping that Francona had a little something to do with it. He's probably the most baseball-savvy manager they've had since they bought the Tribe. Maybe they figured he knows more than they do, we'd better get him some players. Or maybe the rumor is true that they are gussying up the team to make them more attractive to sell.

its not too early to hope for a central title. It was a weak division last year despite Detroit's roster.

Anything can happen in baseball, for sure, however, Detroit is the favorite by default.

Division should be improved, that's for damn sure. It'd be hard to be any worse than it was last year.

I think the Tribe is the most improved team in baseball--well, in America at least--Toranto did pretty well this off-season too.

Cleveland Indians home opener tickets are now available online to the general public. The presale tickets have been available to season ticket/flex seat holders for a few days, but now to everyone. Just got mine! Seats are not good and are going fast.

I'm going to the game on Saturday. I didn't make the trek up to Goodyear last year, but I'm planning on going to ~8 games this year

I tried to get some and all that's left are nose bleeds. I'm surprised since they don't even go on sale until Monday.

....and the first Tribe pitch of the year will be delivered by Giovanni Soto (acquired for Jhonny Peralta). Soto will be the first game pitcher for Puerto Rico in the WBC.

Tribe takes on the Reds Friday at their shared facility in Goodyear AZ. Cactus League play begins on Saturday.

...and Soto gets hammered for 5 runs in 2/3 of an inning:o....Not to worry as the Tribe kept coming back in a slugfest, winning on a bases clearing walkoff double by Mike McDade(who?). Earlier in the game Michael Brantley and Carlos Santana had hits in both their AB's....Chiz smacked a 2 run dinger.

...and we are off to a good start in 2013.

Does anyone know when they'll start showing any of the spring training games on TV? If any?

Masterson and ubaldo both had a scoreless 2 innings. Starting pitching has looked pretty good so far. Kazmir velocity is up to 94-95-96 which is huge for him. Could be a steal signing

Seriously?

He had his career ruined with injury and lack of pace. If he can regain 95 consistently I wouldnt doubt he moves into our top 2 of the rotation.
