Yeah, pretty much. Last time in the CP.ccrunner609;1390516 wrote:Funny, when Duke wins they dont do that....Oh I forgot, this is Marylands championship game.
And nothing else to do in College Park.
Seriously, only 4 bars in all the campus area.
And DC is a 20 minute metro ride in.

Duke is an average team without Ryan Kelly.

I think every Duke fan has said that here. It's plainly evident. Average might not be the word -- Duke is still a Top 25 team without Kelly -- but when they are not hitting their threes, the Blue Devils are extremely beatable. By anybody.

I watched this game. My second duke game of the season. How does a team win with 26 turnovers?? How much money di Plunlee lose tonight? He looked bad against a guy who could match his size and length.
Agree with CC about the free throw and the timeout. It worked out for the Terps.

Without Kelly, Duke still has enough talent to compose a Top 25 team. Unfortunately, without Kelly and with Plumlee having for whatever reason regressed mightily since his 32-point game against N.C. State, the Blue Devils are once again relegated to a team who chucks threes to win.ccrunner609;1390629 wrote:without Kelly and Plumlee flat out sucked Duke is bad
Seth Curry, to his credit, though, played like a star tonight. He dropped 25 and nailed mid range shot after mid range shot to keep Duke in it. He is playing like an All-American right now. Love Curry's game. He's got heart.

Alex Len is a better pro prospect than Mason Plumlee, and I imagine that is why Len outplayed him tonight. I have no excuses for Plumlee. Call it whatever you want, but he was playing at a NPOTY or at least All-American level midway through the ACC season (especially after the great game against N.C. State's Richard Howell and C.J. Leslie). Over the last three games, however, he has been weak. He got 19 and 18 against BC and UNC, respectively, but make no mistake about it, Plumlee was outplayed in each of those games.
Foul trouble has certainly been an issue with him in recent games (in the Carolina game, for example, once he got into serious foul trouble, he completely stopped playing aggressive defensively, and got absolutely abused for it by JMM. And that then no doubt affects his offensive game. He is just too worried about picking up fouls.) But that's sort of a cop out. Tonight, against Len, Plumlee was outclassed. He was a major disappointment, and caused the loss.

2 thoughts on last nights game: the fouls that were called were ridiculous. I hate to see such ticky tack fouls called especially in the last 3 minutes of a game and they missed a foul on that last shot Cook took. Clearly his arm was held. The other thought is get Kelly back and see what happens. My concern with him is he will be out of basketball shape and will not gain that back this season! I do believe we can still win a title without Kelly due to the fact that this year is probably the weakest college basketball has ever been and if the Akron Zips won it all I would not be surprisedccrunner609;1390726 wrote:My prediction is that Duke loses to UNC the last game of the year. I think they win out other then that. Miami will win the ACC regular season and by the time they go to Durham they will have already wrapped it up so it will be nothing to play for but a #1 seed in the tourney, Duke wins that game.
ACC championship.....Duke v Miami again.

Yeah, he said something like that once the news broke that Maryland would leave. But, the ACC screwed Maryland by saying there was no way that Duke and Maryland could continue to play every year. And, Maryland's rival would have been Pitt. No offense to Pitt, but no Maryland fan cares about Pitt.ccrunner609;1390760 wrote:Did anyone here the Coach K soundbite about Maryland leaving the ACC? Is it me or was that a total slam?
And, Maryland was not getting any revenue from the ACC networks.
It does suck that the Duke won't play the Terps, but that is the reality of the new college landscape.

It was a total slam. And, since I detest Maryland and its generally awful fans, I appreciated it. Maryland hasn't been good in the ACC in years, and it will get dominated by the current Big Ten.
Coach K: "I have a great deal of respect for Maryland. [But] If it was such a rivalry they’d still be in the ACC. Obviously they don’t think it’s that important, or they wouldn’t be in the Big Ten. We’ve had some great games with them, but we have great games against a lot of people. A lot of people want to beat us, and they’re one of them.”

I'll admit the fans are a little overboard, but the whole fanbase is not that bad.
I've been to a few games a year, and it only the Duke game where things usually get out of hand.
Otherwise, it is just like any other college game.
And yeah, the Terps haven't been great lately, but have a pretty good young class and I think will be a nice contribution to the B1G.

The only arenas I have been to in the ACC on game day are Duke and Wake Forest, but I have a friend who went to a Duke game in College Park who can personally attest to the absurdity of Maryland fans. I could also do a quick Google search and dig up countless stories of arrests, burned automobiles and physical violence. My personal favorite story would have to be the time Maryland fans showered the Duke parent section behind the Blue Devils' bench with a hailstorm of batteries and glass bottles after Jason Williams stole the game right from underneath their noses in the final minute in 2001.ptown_trojans_1;1390827 wrote:Have you been to College Park?

With that said, I agree with you that it certainly isn't all fans. You seem fairly reasonable. But, at Maryland, it's worse than many other places.

I will say though Cook never touched that point guard on his way to he hoop-that little guy was smiling-well he can smile his way all the way to the NIT!Prescott;1390755 wrote:I hate to see such ticky tack fouls called especially in the last 3 minutes of a game

I was there in 2010 when Maryland beat us and rioted after the game! Oh well we cut the nets down that year!reclegend22;1390911 wrote:The only arenas I have been to in the ACC on game day are Duke and Wake Forest, but I have a friend who went to a Duke game in College Park who can personally attest to the absurdity of Maryland fans. Oddly enough, that was the only Maryland team that I didn't really mind. I respected Greivis Vasquez a great deal. I was disappointed Duke lost the game, but it didn't leave me with hate in my heart like last night. I want Seth Allen dead. He was talking out there like he was Spike Lee. He averages seven points a game.Red Rider Nation;1390932 wrote:I was there in 2010 when Maryland beat us and rioted after the game! Oh well we cut the nets down that year!

They play at another level against Duke but so does everyone! maryland probably won't sell out another game and probably won't win 3 more games.reclegend22;1390981 wrote:Oddly enough, that was the only Maryland team that I didn't really mind. Lol Maryland is t that bad of a team. There very very young. They have the talents but as you can see turnovers are brutal. I expect them to make the tourny

Maryland definitely has work to do to get into the NCAAs. The Terps have two good wins against N.C. State and Duke, but the next best quality win in terms of RPI is Stony Brook. They are 18-7, but have one of the worst non-conference SOS's in the country among BCS teams at 293, and having lost all four OOC games versus the RPI Top 50.
Maryland will have to finish the season by winning at the very least 5 of its last 6 games, and one of those wins must be against North Carolina at home. The only loss can be to Virginia in Charlottesville. Any other loss (against Wake, BC, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech or Clemson), coupled with a loss to UNC and Virginia, would automatically end the Terps' chances.

While Maryland definitley had an abundance of turnovers, Duke turned up the pressure when down 10 and in complete desperation mode late in the second half, which in turn led to several additional turnovers.Prescott;1391220 wrote:They play at another level against Duke

Several Maryland players did play out of their minds against Duke, though. Alex Len was averaging seven points per game over his last eight games heading into the Duke game, according to ESPN's broadcast, and scored only nine against Duke in Cameron. He scored 19 against Duke in College Park. He was making turnaround jumpers like he was Kevin Durant. Seth Allen, whom I noted I wanted dead above, scored 16 points and was gunning from all over the place like he was in the Wild West. He averages seven points per game.
While Duke deserved to lose with its performance, Maryland definitely was driven by the name on the front of their opponent's jersey. This is the same Maryland team that was getting blasted at home to Virginia by more than 25 earlier in the week.
