And while this statement is going to sting a little...
It's like saying North Carolina went to the Final Four in 2010.

Its impressive either way...but it is kind of a fallacy since the AP stops before the damn tournament lol.

What does this mean? I'm sure once you explain it, it will be obvious. But I am not yet seeing it. North Carolina finished the year in the NIT in 2010 and not in the Top 25 of the AP poll. Again, I am probably just missing your point.wildcats20;1335942 wrote:And while this statement is going to sting a little...

Also, how is this not entirely a true statement:
Being ranked in the top ten for six straight years is a testament of consistent winning, and not dropping off the map like some schools and coaches tend to do every few years (UCLA, UNC, Florida, UConn, Syracuse and others with long-time, HOF coaches at the helm have suffered such seasons in recent years), is it not?reclegend22 wrote:Rankings don't always translate to championships. The Blue Devils only have "one" national title during that time frame. But no matter how you look at it, it's still an impressive mark and a testament to K's consistency year to year.

And let me also add that Ben Howland is not a HOF coach. Not sure why I said that.

UNC was part of the NIT Final Four, so they were in the Final Four. Just as you said with Dook's "rating." You didn't specify which poll.
And as for your second part, I also just answered that.

This got me thinking, and it isnt a slight at Duke, more of a curious question.
I wonder if any other team could make this claim recently but got shafted by the PRESEASON rankings...
I mean, wasnt just a couple years ago Syracuse was #1 all year, but it took like a month to get there cause they started toards the end of the top 25??? I honestly have no clue, but I wonder if anyone has gone like 3 years, graduated a ton so started way low, but still ended up in the top 10 most of that year and maybe 2 years following or something. Interesting to ponder, if nothing else lol

I really am not trying to take away from it, it's a crazy number.
Similar to Tiger being ranked #1 in the world for 264 consecutive weeks.

The only other school as of late I can think of could be Kansas.

First part...I don't think the NIT Final Four is comparable to finishing in the Top Ten in the AP poll, as it means that the NIT team wasn't even one of the best 32 at large teams in the country. We'll just have to agree to disagree there.wildcats20;1335972 wrote:First part.....

Second part...We'll have to agree to disagree here, too. Coach K consistently fields teams that win enough to finish in the Top Ten or Top 25 almost yearly, which proves consistency. The only exception this century being 2006-07, when the Devils finished the season 22-11, but still went to the NCAAs.
UNC, Florida, UConn and Syracuse are all teams run by HOF coaches who have all missed the NCAAs multiple times since 2000 (one of UNC's two tournament misses came under Matt Doherty). That doesn't appear to happen at Duke.

What the hell are you talking about???
You said Dook has had a top 10 ranking for 98 straight weeks, while true, it's not 100% factual. They were 14th in the final ESPN/Coaches poll from last season. I said North Carolina was in the final four in 2010. It is true, but not 100% factual. They were in the NIT Final Four.
I never said word one about Coach K or the Dook program as a whole. Way to read WAY WAY WAY too much into what I said.

That's certainly an interesting thought, and, while you didn't directly say this, you are right, Duke most definitely does seem to start the year off in the Top Ten more times than a lot of other schools. I am sure that is partly due to the consistency Coach K has maintained in Durham and that being in the back of voters' minds, partly the amazing talent that Duke brings in yearly, and partly based on sheer reputation and the expectations that Duke will just be that good again.Laley23;1335974 wrote:This got me thinking, and it isnt a slight at Duke, more of a curious question.

I don't really know. It'd be interesting to find some of that information out.

I think we are arguing different points. I am just looking at the pure facts. It is 100% true that Duke has been in the AP top ten since November 2007 (whether that should be the case or not, that's how the AP conducts its polling). And it is also true that being in the top ten that long is a sign of consistency. That's all I was saying.wildcats20;1335982 wrote:What the hell are you talking about???

Which is NOT what you originally said. Which is why I said it was not 100% accurate.reclegend22;1335984 wrote:I think we are arguing different points. I am just looking at the pure facts. All you said was top 10 rating. Which is in fact not true.

Wasn't really being defensive. Just playing the back and forth game. I'm really only on the defensive when ahdonis or cbf are involved, and I think the latter may have died. Lol. Well, not lol. He definitely used to bring it against Duke, though, back in the day.
Whatever happened to him?

Lol. I do miss a couple of the posters from the old site that used to keep things going on the college forum (hank24, whom I liked) and bbmind (whom I didn't like).wildcats20;1336000 wrote:I am not too positive. I saw his name on another thread too, no big loss though lol

It was phogallen, I think. Also, remember when The Huddle used to be completely overrun with Duke and Carolina fans and half of every thread on the front page was a thread about Duke or UNC, and almost none about Ohio State? Lol. Pretty funny for an Ohio board.
UNC fans that I can remember off the top of my head: you, hoops23, RiverRat, Kramer, ironman02, heelz, jgord, the idiot who predicted a perfect season (rowdyrider), BurgVike, and a few more I can't remember.
Duke fans: me, Trinity, swami, georgemc, ccrunner, trackandccrunner, keane, friendfromlowry, redrider, MattinCTown, bruisingbuckeye, kwy, and a few others.
Obviously I am bored, lol.

Anyone see the dunk by Cooney in the Syracuse game? Was not expecting it at all.
