Northwestern zeroes in on Duke assistant Chris Collins. I think he takes it and that fellow Duke assistant Nate James leaves with him. Both are excellent recruiters and would be huge losses for the Blue Devils. Collins is one of the best recruiters in the business, but recruiting to Northwestern is an entirely different ball game.

Rumors swirling that Doug Collins will join his son on the staff at NW if he doesn't return to the Sixers, which is likely.

Saddened that Duke loses arguably its best recruiter on the staff -- outside of K, the deal closer -- but this just further solidifies my belief that Collins will be the next head coach of the Blue Devils. He needs the experience as a leading man so I am glad he will get it in the Big Ten, if the deal is done.

Several outlets now reporting it; Chris Collins is the next head coach at NW.

Interested to see how he does.

In court designs.....LESS is more.
I prefer the courts like IU, and even OSU to a point. Basic, clean and no gimmicks. I thinkg OSU does have the value city thing on it that I dont particular like..but other then that the big Ohio in the middle is subtle.

Interesting news. I really hope he can get NU over the hump. The football team is there, but the basketball team has had some vicious injury luck that has kept them out.

How much experience will he really get if Doug Collins joins the staff. I would think by default he would garner much of the attention based on who he is

The Doug Collins idea is just a rumor at this point. Might not be any validity to it at all.

While I agree that Doug would garner a lot of attention, that might not be a bad thing in terms of recruiting. Chris is already an excellent recuiter -- he's been the lead recruiter at Duke for years -- but having a former NBA coach on staff wouldn't hurt. You want the best staff you can possibly put together.

It probably won't happen, though. I imagine Doug will want his son to do his own thing now that he has control of a Big Ten program.

VCU should be pretty sick next year. I can see him bolting after next year.

Tubby Smith may be headed to Texas Tech. For a shitty program they've landed some high profile coaches in the past decade.

Now that they'll be in a good basketball conference with the new BE, he will probably never leave.

One of the KFAN guys in Minneapolis (sports radio) is reporting that Flip Saunders to Minnesota is a done deal.

Where's he gonna go? The jobs at Kansas, UNC, Duke, Indiana and UK aren't opening, and neither are the next tier jobs (Arizona, Syracuse, Connecticut, Georgetown). If he turned down UCLA, he's not gonna take a job anyplace else that may be opening in IMO.

I think Smart is comfortable where he is and perhaps believes, like me, that his brand of basketball is best suited for the mid-major player, not the kind UCLA gets. At least that's my view.

Spot on. If he's not leaving for UCLA, I don't see him leaving for anything.

I only said that because he will be in a position to have a down year at VCU. His team next year, is better than any possible job he could get. He very well may stay, but the motive for my post was more about his situation at VCU and not so much about what could open.

Disagree with this though. Not even a top 10 job. Maybe not even top 20.

From post game presser:

“At this point, I really don't know,” he said. “I'm kind of emotional, but I'll sit down talk to my mom and see what's the deal. But, at this time I'm really not focused on it.”

McLemore, who led all Jayhawks with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting in the loss to fourth-seeded Michigan, said he had thought very little about the NBA during his first full season of college basketball even though many analysts and projections have him as a sure-fire top-five pick in this summer's NBA Draft.

I hope he comes back :(

IMO, this would be a disaster. Because of that, USC will probably do it...

Why? Aside from lack of west coast ties, I don't see the downside. USC certainly isn't going to get any worse.
