In some ways this reminds me of that epic full retard situation involving the lolMafia in the HS football board a bit back. In short: A large group of people, at least some of whom know each other personally, bantered a lot on certain threads involving Wayne County teams. Things occasionally got heated and led to personal attacks, swearing (a no-no on those forums) and the like. A mod (O-Trap, also from Wayne Co. and an active participant on those threads) cleaned things up WITHOUT infracting anyone. This caused at least 4Ringz to go ballistic and leave the site because we apparently suck for daring to alter anything on a Wayne Co. thread. I could go on about the hilarity of this, but I'd end up with an O-trap length post before even getting to my actual point.

I'd compare that group to any large message board group of fans of a particular team, whether it be Cleveland here or the Reds on Yappi. You'll have a pack of people who are passionate about a team and can get heated about things. Case in point: I recall BR and S&L having the sort of discussion about Weeden that would lead to infractions if it happened under any context other than two fans of the same team arguing about the merits of a particular move.

But all that does make it tricky to mod things on a thread like those, as (at least to me), it's hard to justify jumping in to eliminate one thing unless that one thing is just over-the-top obnoxious (like Capone would get). Like, where if it's relaxed, it's relaxed. But if it's a "you 30 guys do what you want...the rest of you better keep the fuck in line!", things get overly complicated. That'd be like, on a past Penguins thread, saying that because Rock's a Pens fan, he can go off on his "FUCK YOU YOU STUPID FUCK!!!!" rants on anyone at any time, but fans of other teams (like RawDawginIt or GoRocks) better not say anything non-complementary about the team at any time.

But I tend to like the back-and-forth stuff, as long as it doesn't get too crazy (like it tended to do on those Rock-era Pens threads). Only shit that really would annoy me are things like KnightRyder on the college football scene where he refuses to disclose who he cheers for while regularly bashing various teams (the bitch way of trolling) or the "cheer for the player, not the team" guys like SQ with Lebron or Said with RG3. When it comes to talking sports, there's just such a different perspective that it's like oil and water. If I was a Cavs fan, I'd have wanted to throttle SQ after a few weeks of that "Lebron can do no wrong, everyone else sucks and you're a retard if you disagree with any of that for even one second!!!" attitude... I think he heard Eminem's "Stan" while buzzed up one day and decided Lebron needs his own Stan...

And that tangent is probably why you shouldn't wake-n-bake and then type a book on your opinions on stuff. Whoa...hopefully I made a point somewhere in there...
