You need to watch more basketball. Chris Paul can pretty do whatever the hell he wants, like Kyrie.trep14;1394120 wrote:\. Teams that have had success in the playoffs always have a guy who you can tell "go out and score me 30 points and do it efficiently". Chris Paul isn't that guy. He can make the role players on his team better, but I don't see him as a guy who can flat out dominate a game.

This. He's a top 5 player in the league.lhslep134;1394153 wrote:You need to watch more basketball. Chris Paul can pretty do whatever the hell he wants, like Kyrie.

I said he was a great regular season player and fills the stat sheet. He's just not a guy who is going to lead your team to a championship. Not a knock on him, just that having a "pure" point guard doesn't win playoff series.lhslep134;1394153 wrote:You need to watch more basketball. CP3 is absolutely a franchise player. I think Kyrie is the best PG in the league though.

But there are a lot of guys who I would take over him if I was building a team. Today's game features swingmen.Commander of Awesome;1394161 wrote:This. He's a top 5 player in the league.

I can only think of 3. Lebron, Durant, and Irving.trep14;1394166 wrote:But there are a lot of guys who I would take over him if I was building a team.

The fact of the matter is, teams that win the championship do not need their point guard to average 10+ assists. That tells me your pg is doing too much and the rest of your team is too inept to run the offense.

You're cherry picking now. Sure maybe a team doesn't need a guy who blocks 2.7 shots a game and grabs 10+ boards, but Tim Duncan doesn't hurt.trep14;1394175 wrote:The fact of the matter is, teams that win the championship do not need their point guard to average 10+ assists. I would take Lebron, Durant, Melo, DWade, Kobe, Westbrook, and healthy Rose easily before I would take CP3. And that's just off the top of my head.If I'm a GM and I have one of those guys on my team and someone offers me Chris Paul straight up for one of them I'm easily saying "nope". And I would take Kyrie before CP3 because I like Kyrie's game more than Chris Paul and he's younger too. Kyrie can absolutely be a great scorer in the NBA and someone who can win a playoff series someday I think.sleeper;1394169 wrote:I can only think of 3. Lebron, Durant, and Irving.

I'm just saying, a dominant point guard like Chris Paul hasn't really shown to be that integral when talking about teams with playoff success. That's just my opinion though, everyone is entitled to their own. Most NBA analysts agree with you, not me. I realize my opinion isn't a popular one, that is just what I think when considering constructing a championship caliber NBA team.Commander of Awesome;1394178 wrote:You're cherry picking now. That's a different point. You didn't say you couldn't win with a PG, you said that you can't win with Chris Paul's skillset and then gave a critique that has zero backing.trep14;1394166 wrote:But there are a lot of guys who I would take over him if I was building a team. I agree with you that a franchise PG isn't good enough on it's own. But I vehemently disagree with your Paul analysis.

I said you can't win with Chris Paul's skillset as your best player in my original post. I absolutely believe that is true.lhslep134;1394190 wrote:That's a different point. The NBA talent level across the board is ridiculous. Whenever you can have a top player at a position/skillset that you can exploit is always an advantage. That's why skilled big men (Shaq, Dwight, Gasol, etc....) are so valuable. The same can be said for the PG/Wing position. Right now, the NBA IMO is extremely weak at the 2 guard (or SG). Kobe, Wade (not even a fan) and Harden. Having an elite SG in the NBA right now if the biggest advantage night in and night out IMO, followed by C then PG.

I know what you said. You said CP3 isn't as good as he really is. I comprehended that, I just don't see how someone who watches a lot of basketball can say that.trep14;1394195 wrote:I said you can't win with Chris Paul's skillset as your best player in my original post. And trep if you're going to take RW D-Rose over CP3, I'm not gonna argue because you can't win that argument against someone who values athleticism over skills.

Wade's skillset has proven to be better in the playoffs than CP3's. I don't see what's so laughable about that.SportsAndLady;1394220 wrote:You would take dwade over cp3???

Exactly. Good post. I just think it gets tossed around to much that CP3 is one of the top 3 players in the league for what he actually brings to a team if you want to win a championship. In terms of talent, he's really good. I wouldn't not want him on my team ( and yes I am using a double negative). It's just that for where he's valued at there are other guys who I think give you a better chance to win when the chips are down. That is all I am saying.Commander of Awesome;1394196 wrote:The NBA talent level across the board is ridiculous.
