The term you're looking for is explicit proof, and there usually isn't any in a coverup. You REALLY think there's truly incriminating evidence that's going to surface? No. Think Watergate

There is plenty of implicit proof that Paterno completely knew about it and at the very best ignored it, and I don't want to imagine the worst.

I'll freely admit it, I defended Paterno at first saying that I'll reserve judgment until we get both sides. I find the Freeh report to be sufficient enough for me to formulate my opinion that Paterno is a f*cking scumbag.

It has to come specifically from football revenue. They aren't even allowed to use money from another sport.

Yeah, but football revenue is used to support non revenue sports at most universities. I don't see where the NCAA has the authority to fine an institution for a non collegiate sports related crime. This is a criminal case surrounding people in charge of the program, but not specifically related to program violations of a competitive nature. I can see sanctions against the people responsible in the program, and to a lesser extent the football program itself, but where does the NCAA get off picking a $ figure out of the air and then demanding that be paid to whomever they designate.The penaties cut a broad swath, and affect people who are innocent of the whole situation. The NCAA has often been accused of being arbitrary, selective, heavy handed and uneven with the punishments it levies. This is another example....and a glaring one at that.

It is criminal when the innocent suffer at the hands of those authority figures that they trust. It would be nice if the NCAA got that message.

yeah. The way I understand it is the football program will still fund non revenue sports as usual, THEN the fine money would be paid. PSU stated they have an account for it and assure it'll use zero taxpayer dollars

I think the ruling is absolutely fair. You can't tell me JoePa didn't know something was up. I don't care if he says he had no idea. It didnt look like Penn St. was going to do anything, and if not them, then who would punish an institution who once found out tried covering it up? Our criminal system isnt set up to punish this program, that leaves the NCAA. If they do nothing, this coverup that took place on school grounds by school employees goes completely unpunished for not protecting these innocent kids while on their property and supervised by school employees.

Most psu fans around here knew it was coming. Most of them just want to move on and are excited to see what o'brian brings to the table.

The NCAA is supposed to govern college athletics.....PERIOD! PSU is taking the fall for illegal actions by Sandusky and those who were involved in the cover-up. PSU football gained no edge from the actions of the monster and others. The $60 million should go to the young victims of Sandusky horrible crimes. The NCAA should stick to college sports and let law enforcment do their job where criminal acts are concerned.

While it may be off the subject, who governs the NCAA? Who do they answer to? It would be poetic justice if somehow( ain't gonna happen) the NCAA was taken to task over this ridiculous ruling.

Saw they took Paterno's statue over to the library to remind the students to keep quiet.

The NCAA is a membership run organization. Once the members (the colleges and universities) decide it has gone too far, they will make changes. Also participation in the NCAA is completely voluntary. If a school really felt the punishment did not fit the crime, it could just withdrawal and no longer participate in any NCAA events.

This is why the idea of the "Super Conferences" is so interesting in the world of college athletics. If a conference can obtain enough powerful schools and with the help of their own TV networks it appears that they could just withdrawal from the NCAA and have their own athletic association.

of course they got advantage from it. for over a decade they hid the child rapes. the revelations would have caused a loss of recruits and a loss of revenue.
