Three times a week I stop at a drive up coffee shop, place my order it comes to around $4.55, I tell the girl to keep the change and drive off. This is standard now, they never return my change. I don’t have to tip them but it’s nice and I get good service and they know what I want before I order. This also hold true in a convenient store if I’m to get pennies back I just say Keep the Change… they drop it in that little penny holder and off I go..

Hate carring change... and what change I do collect that evening it goes into a change jar... We collect about $35.00 per mo. in change ...

What is the factor that determines whether or not .. Keep the Change or You take the Change?

I keep quarters for parking meters, everything else is pretty much useless to me.

if i am paying attention, its pennies. most of the time i am not paying attention and dont notice how much the change is until they give it to me.

i have had found meters that use dimes and nickels, they came in handy for me then.

Where i live those don't matter too much for parking, they give you about 4 mins.

I roll my change because money is money. And I don't have a lot of it. I usually have $50-75 every few months. Real nice.

For me, it's all about my mood. Granted, I should always show favor and compassion, but I suppose that it my cross to bear.

hasbeen: My mother-in-law (RIP) bought my then new-born son a three foot Coke bottle piggy bank. We fill that thing up over a four year period and then sorted and rolled them. Upwards of $400!!! That's one nice rainy day fund!

We are starting to save our change. My wife read a story of some lady that saved, I think, $50k in pennies over a 15 year period.

I pretty much use my card for everything, but if I have any change it goes into a jar. I've only filled it once and I don't remember how much was in it.

I'll be honest; anyone who pays with cash is an idiot. If you aren't using a CC for every place that accepts CC, then you're throwing money down the drain. Not only that, you are subsidizing the 2-3% that CC companies charge the business as a fee for CC use.

I actually love people that use cash, makes things cheaper for me but then again I'm not a sucker.

I try to use cash for small businesses because it saves them money -- for this very same reason.

For those big corporations, screw them, I'll use my card. I don't mind helping out the small businesses by using cash though, it's not that big of a deal to carry around a $20 or $50 for a random dinner with the wife.

Yeah screw those big corporations. How dare they employ a bunch of people, pay taxes, and provide products that enhance the standard of living of its customers. Life would be so much better if we just had mom and pop stores drilling the ocean for oil, building the pipeline to move that oil, and managing the refinery; as well as the retail stores to deliver your gas to your car. Where do I sign up? :thumbdown:

Not all of them. :)

Also, I'd like to get the trillions in basically interest free loans they got as well.

I blame the average US Joe for being an idiot as much as the banks for taking on the idiots and bankrupting themselves. "Oh look, I can get an $400,000 ARM mortgage with zero down and only 2% interest on my minimum wage salary. Everyone deserves to own a home and everyone should own a home! Thanks Obama!"

I can't put all the blame on the banks since it was EZ money for them. You'd do the same thing.

If a company isn't paying taxes its because they shouldn't be. Not the company's fault for using the tax rules(read: tax incentives) to return as much money to their shareholders as possible. If they didn't do that, they'd be stupid and end up being worthless.

It would be better if I would just take the change and put it into an account I guess, but I used to find myself just spending it on stuff because I had the change, but then started to put it in a big plastic coke bottle I got at spencers gifts. I use it for a downpayment on the next vehicle. The last time it was close to 2500 in loose change and one dollar bills. I started to just pop some dollar bills in there when I had a cople of loose ones in my wallet. It added up pretty quick.

Cashed in around $800 about 15 years ago......not much accumulated anymore almost ever purchase is with the CC.

The worst was when my wife would hit a drive thru and the order would come to $8.47 and she would give them a $10 and then dig for either 2 quarters or exactly 47 cents. Good God.

When my uncle passed a few years ago I was helping clean the house out. We found a two buckets with lids in the crawl space that we could not move very easily. When we finally got one of them outta there it was full of change. Not sure how long he had been saving but we did find jars of change all around the house. When it was all said and done we found three quarters worth about twenty bucks and some dimes and nickels worth a little bit. We called the bank and warned them we were bringing them in. It ended up being 4800 in coins. Was very few pennies in the two buckets.
