The projected starting outside linebacker, A playing back up defensive back and arguably the best wide receiver on the team were sent home because they failed their "physical Readiness Test" coming into camp. They can try again when school begins but that basically puts them in a position of being on the scout team.

Navy Starting WR Matt Aiken apparently hyper-extended his right knee in Saturday's scrimmage and could very well miss the opener against Notre Dame.

That means Navy is currently without its two projected starters at wide receiver since Brandon Turner is unable to practice until he passes the physical readiness test that is administered to all midshipmen.

You have to be a good blocker to start. You also have the be able to stretch the field so the defense doesn't load the box against the triple option.

They only threw the ball 135 times last season. They aren't really trying to stretch anything. They only throw on 3rd and long usually. Rarely throw in first or second down situations.

Rarely throw on 3rd down either. They effectively rush the ball and have over the last decade. That doesn't mean you have a guy start for you that doesn't have the ability to stretch the field when you need to move Dbs out of the box. That was the question wasn't it?

Not really. But I'm not disagreeing with you either.

It's also not necessarily just receiving or attempts that help the run on offense. Putting a guy on the edge and attacking the middle of the field can force the DBS to stay away from the play-side veer.

Yes, he is a good blocker and it would matter to the Navy offense if they lost a good receiver. It mattered when they lost a good throwing QB in Ricky Dobbs.

...and now projected starting Outside Linebacker Chris Johnson is suspected to have torn his ACL. This is a position Navy was already thin at.

Overall in 2012, one bad OL injury and DB's not catching some breaks could mean that sleeper's 6-6 prediction comes true. I don't blame Kelly at all for it.

Of course, if Everett Golson is half as good as his HS tape suggests, they could be 10-2.
