His defense takes him up a notch.
I would say kipnis and Phillips are about even. Phillips is a little better defensively and kipnis is a ver very good all around player. Hits for power, average and has good speed. He is easily looking at a 20hr 20 sb season

Phillips and kipnis about even? Maybe statistically this season..but not overall. Phillips is a lock every year for a gold glove, and goes for 20/20 almost every season.

I'm talking this season. This is kipnis' first year and he's probably going to be an all star and have a 20/20 year and he's only 24. He is a super star in the making that can at times carry a whole offense.SportsAndLady;1196451 wrote:Phillips and kipnis about even? Maybe statistically this season..but not overall. I've seen a lot of Tribe and Reds games. If in starting a team and have a pick of either teams position players. I'm taking Votto first overall and Kipnis second.

Yeah, I probably agree....but I would no part of that ridiculous contract Votto got....lol. As for the Kipnis/Phillips debate, you will never hear me complain that we ended up with Kipnis.Laley23;1196565 wrote:I've seen a lot of Tribe and Reds games. Just looked up Kipnis' stats. Pretty impressive, looking forward to watching him for the first time.

Not necessarily. Revenue is drivin by pageviews and ad clicks. One big thread or three smaller threads, doesn't matter if the pageviews are the same.SportsAndLady;1195852 wrote:By the way..what's with the series thread bulllllllshit?
a) do indians fans not get enough convo going to do individual games?
b) do you realize that justin gets more money by having multiple threads rather than a 3 pack?
c) Reds are gonna kill the indians?
That said, I prefer the 1 thread per game way we do it for Reds games. But I don't care how Indians fans do it.

Adam Dunn hits 3rd for the first place White Sox......he makes 2.73 outs per game.
Brandon Phillips hits 4th for the 1st place Reds....he makes 2.79 outs per gMe.

And before you say Reds fans don't like Phillips batting 4th....Troy Tulowitzki bats 4th and makes 2.74 outs per game.

Since there's no general "Tribe thread" like there is for the Browns, I'll put this here....
Any interest, Tribe fans? Would still prefer Willingham....

I would take him in left field for sure. But it seems like our front office had a hard on for Carlos lee. I expect them to go get him by the deadline

Yeah, it's not the outs per game as much as the lack of production that can come from a strikeout. Brandon Phillips can move a runner into scoring position by hitting a ground ball or fly out. You can't do that with a strike out.Ironman92;1196629 wrote:Adam Dunn hits 3rd for the first place White Sox......he makes 2.73 outs per game.

I have no idea if Reds' fans like or hate Phillips batting in the 4 spot.Ironman92;1196652 wrote:And before you say Reds fans don't like Phillips batting 4th....Troy Tulowitzki bats 4th and makes 2.74 outs per game.

Willing to bet a good amount that Dunns RBI total over Phillips is more than Phillips moving runners along advantage over Dunn.

I would bet the same thing. I don't have any doubt that Dunn has a greater total run production and contribution to his team than does Phillips.Laley23;1196746 wrote:Willing to bet a good amount that Dunns RBI total over Phillips is more than Phillips moving runners along advantage over Dunn.

Most seem to prefer him batting 1st or 2nd.
I understand the idea of moving the runner over and all that and how the strikeout worthlessly does not accomplish that....but he's 5th in all of baseball in RBI....as for moving runners over, his leading the league in walks moves them over more than the rest of the league and doesn't cost an out.
His HR, RBI, BB are great, his OB% and slugging % are very good and more than enough to be hitting where he is.

None of the things I disputed at all. He's a big man that can hit the ball a mile. That puts crooked numbers on the board.Ironman92;1196762 wrote:Most seem to prefer him batting 1st or 2nd.

Has anyone stuck out more than 400 time over a two year period in baseball? It's really quite astounding.

Brandon is prone to the GIDP, which we like to call the GIBP.Con_Alma;1196737 wrote:Yeah, it's not the outs per game as much as the lack of production that can come from a strikeout. Mark Reynolds. Averaged over 200 K for 4 consecutive seasons.Con_Alma;1196777 wrote:None of the things I disputed at all. He's a big man that can hit the ball a mile. That puts crooked numbers on the board.

Adam Dunn has never Kd 200 times in a season but is on pace to destroy that this year.

Mark Reynolds. 76 HR and 187 RBI to go along with 434 Ks.Con_Alma;1196777 wrote:None of the things I disputed at all. He's a big man that can hit the ball a mile. That puts crooked numbers on the board.

Those are the top 2 combo years for him. Also could add the first year with 28HR, 97RBI, 204K and his last of 37HR, 86RBI, 196K

...and a run can score from such contact. That's all I was trying to say. Your team always has a chance at something when the bat is on the ball. Your team doesn't when you strike out.justincredible;1196784 wrote:Brandon is prone to the GIDP, which we like to call the GIBP.
