Yeah, but I think the initial kick should have been called offsides, because if the 2 Croatian players that were offsides hadn't been there, the Irish player wouldnt have rushed it and could have cleared it.... I really don't agree with the commentators at all.

Pass came from the Irish defender.
Though he was offsides on the original shot, he wasn't in on the play so that's the refs decision. I thought it was the right call.

The guy standing next to the Irish defender (on the inside) was offside on the original kick and had he not been part of the play, I doubt the Irish defender freaks out and mis-kicks it like he did... Thats just my opinionMidstate01;1194574 wrote:Pass came from the Irish defender.

Maybe, but if the best, even freak out, clear you can muster is a shank backwards... You deserve it. That was terrible.

But with the wording of this, it still would be an offside call. It doesn't matter if the ball "goes off" or is "kicked" by an Irish player. If the Croatian was in an offside position, it is offside. The only time it would negate the offside is IF the ball was intentionally played backwards or possessed by the Irish player. A mere deflection OR missed clearance does not negate the offside call.
That said...the Croatian kits have always been one I've been partial to. Nice look.

Had a bad feeling about the Ireland - Croatia game.. I think Ireland finishes last in the group, sadly.

Im with Ballack on this (cause I agree, and also, cause fuck Alexi Lalas). That was pathetic tactics for a squad of Englands caliber. Suspensions, injuries, tough opponent, whatever...they have the players to play soccer. That was playing for a tie and being the inferior team from the start.
Hopefully Sweden can take down this group. Need a win today for any chance though.

Just saw the Sweeden starting XI. I cant believe Henrik Larrson is still playing, and good enough to start for the national team at Euros. Seems like forever ago he was an aging veteran signing for Barcelona to help the front line for a half season.
EDIT: Not Henrik. Thank God. He has to be 67 by now. But Larson is playing the same position with the same #7 lol.
Anyway. I like their team. Ibra & Rosenberg are really tough combo up top. Ibra is arguably the best pure striker in football and Kallstrom in the center is a really solid player.
