Russia is not technically in Asia at all, actually. Its weird, but both Russia and Turkey are part of Eurasia. They are economically, politically and geographically part of both continents. Thus, they get to compete in UEFA, and not AFC (Europe football association vs Asian association). Its good for both sides as well. UEFA gets enough teams into the WC that Russia and Turkey can pretty much get in each year, and the competition and money is MUUUUUCH better. They would dominate in AFC, so they probably miss out on some WCs, but just making the Euros makes up for it, since AFC doesnt have any tournament even close.

Israel does not get along with any of the middle east, and they kind of kicked them out of AFC. UEFA then invited Israel to join. Kazazhstan is the only country I dont know the reasoning. I think it has to do with so many Russians living there, and when the USSR broke up, the elected to "couple" with Russia politically and economically. Maybe that somehow transferred to soccer as well.
