I read this article earlier today. Seems like there needs to be some punishmnet for the accuser. However, no mateer what debt she has to pay to society it will never put him back in college and give him that shot at an NFL career. I do hope some team does give him a look this offseason, and he makes it. That would be justice served.

I think he has a snowballs chance in hell of making the NFL after missing college and being away from football for so long. Even if he had played in college, he had a very small chance of making the NFL, but at least he would have a good shot at getting an education.

That would work for me.

What an awful story.
During a second meeting that was secretly videotaped, she told Banks, "'I will go through with helping you, but it's like at the same time all that money they gave us, I mean gave me, I don't want to have to pay it back,'" according to Freddie Parish, a defense investigator who was at the meeting.

It was uncertain whether
Gibson will have to return the money and unlikely she would be prosecuted for making the false accusation so long ago, when she was 15.
Un-fucking-believable.

It just shows that an embarrassed "victim"/parent has a lot of incentive to claim rape. I imagine a lot of these cases could stem from unsuspected acts. They could pull a kobe midway through and try to PIIHB when she isn't suspecting.

I don't want to understate how horribly wrong and unjust this is with this comment, but the "innocent" sweatshirt is typical black ridiculousness. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, I dunno.

Given this girls' general intelligence level, I'm guessing there's not much of the $1.5 million left anyway.

She should be forced to pay him whatever IS left, and should be required to give him some amount in monthly payments for the rest of his life due to not only 5 years of lost freedom, but the potential millions in lost income from his NFL career.

Additionally, she should be put in prison for 5 years, and whoever the investigators were who handled this should be heavily called into question. How does someone go to prison for rape when he never even had sex with the girl?

I agree with all of this. I can't fathom how they didn't do a rape kit to get some physical evidence.

Maybe he should get to kidnap and rape her.

In all seriousness, I have a friend that was falsely accused of rape. Luckily, it turned out better for him.

Plus losing out on a college degree if he stayed that long.

A lot of you are implying he'd actually succeed at USC and move onto the NFL, both of which are not for certain.

He deserves restitution, but the nfl/college degree stuff is laughable

Right. But it IS certain that she robbed him of even attempting to go to college.

5 Years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, I can't imagine how that must feel. I don't care if she was 15 when she made the false accusations, when I was 15 I was fully capable of realizing you can ruin someone elses life.

He should still have college eligibility to play somewhere. I mean, that 50-some year old played division III football this year.

She friggin' contacted him on facebook and told the truth?! What a dumb broad. I echo all the statements above to say she should have to pay things back, get time, and do whatever else necessary to make it up to him. She ruined his life...time for hers to get some...

Not to mention the lawyer who advised him to plead no contest. Wouldn't a competent defense attorney be able to determine that there was no corroborating evidence and that the girls story about where it occurred changed? That's a pretty major detail to be flip-flopping on.

I also liked one of the comments from the ESPN story saying false rape accusers should be forced to register just like sex offenders. Put them on a big list and make them report with the sheriff's office wherever they live so that everyone knows who they are.
