Going to MB over the 4th of July. We are actually staying in North Myrtle so we are playing a couple of courses in North Carolina as well. We plan on playing 6 rounds and I think we have settled on:

Oyster Bay
True Blue
World Tour- 27 holes
Thistle- 27 holes
MBN- King's North
The Pearl West Course

Oyster Bay, True Blue, World Tour and King's North are for sure. Pearl and Thistle came highly recommended. Has anybody played either of those two? Any other suggestions?

Oyster Bay is nice. Never played True Blue. Kings North is the nicest of the 3 at MBN. It's very nice. Doesn't waste your money on the the gimmicky World Tour. The Pearls greens blow..bumpy as hell (Atleast they were the first week of May). And never played the thistle.

I personally love Longbay.

Did you play all 36 at The Pearl?

I've played golf in MB for over 20 years. Tried to play 'em all, but they keep closing down before I can get to them!

Oyster Bay is nice with lots of good views.
I personally hate True Blue, but many love it. It's also very expensive. It's a tricked-up course with mounds that arise out of nowhere. There's a par 5 that you can't play without a GPS. Number 9, coming into the clubhouse is a beautiful hole and there can be dozens of viewers watching.
If you're heading to the Pawley's area and want to spend money to play, go to TPC, Heritage or Caledonia instead of True Blue. Blackmoor is a nice course, too with nothing but doglegs!
World Tour is nice, but overpriced. The holes mimicking Amen Corner are close, but the views aren't.
Thistle is your standard everyday Myrtle Course. I think there were 36 holes at one time, but not now...could be wrong on that. It's full of holes you'll forget about the next day.
MBN is quite nice and worth the play.
The Pearl courses are average at best and I do remember the greens being an issue as noted already.

I would highly recommend:
Tidewater as it is my favorite on the Grand Strand.
Arnie's course, River's Edge, was fun to play.
Farmstead was fun and it has a par 6, over 700 yards. Nothing like writing a "7" on your card and feeling happy about it!
Ray Floyd's Arrowhead has 27 holes and it was in great shape.
Willowbrook and Tradition Club make a great 36 hole day as they are only 1/2 mile apart.
The Grandaddy, Pine Lakes, is a great course to play at least once in your life.
The Dunes are short, tight, and loads of fun with great views.
If you're looking for a cheap place to play and enjoy it, try River Club, Possum Trot or the Hackler Course (Coastal Carolina's home).

Yeah. West Greens were slow and bumpy. They had the bermuda greens. East greens were Fast and bumpy. They had the bent grass greens and are new.

A couple other ones to play are River Hills which is tight target golf but short, Aberdeen CC which has a ton of water, Woodland Hills which is very tree lined, and Black Bear. Aberdeen, Woodland Hills, and Black Bear are out by Longbay.

Golf is boring. Do something exciting like boxing or shooting others.

Anyone played any courses in the Raleigh area? I'm headed down to my dad's this weekend and was trying to get in a round before we head to the beach.

I've only played a couple times in Greensboro which is about an hour west of Raleigh on 40. Meadowlands and Grandover. Both excellent courses though.

Yeah I've heard there are some nice courses around that area.

I'm looking at a place called The Preserve at Jordan Lake which is in Chapel Hill. Looks pretty nice, Davis Love III helped in the design and it's owned by the same group who owns The Carolina near Oak Island. Played there last summer and loved it.

...I played Oyster Bay the year it opened & has become one of my favorites. Longbay is a great track & is a must play when you go to Myrtle.

Tbone14, if you have time, stop in Pinehurst on your way down and play Tobacco Road. I played it a few years ago and can't wait to get back there to do it again...a real fun golf course.

Also was trying to see if my dad got any deals at Lonnie Poole. Which is the new NC State course that opened 3 or so years ago. But he couldn't. He works for a company that is on campus, not affiliated with the university, but they give the employees alumni perks to most events.

Tobacco Road looks awesome. I also want to hit some of the Pinehurst Resort courses. Number 2 obviously being on the top of the list but apparently they have 8 courses on that site. You could easily make a week trip out of just Pinehurst, NC.

No but I played Carolina National up there and it's a great track.

My future brother in law is a golf pro down in Pinehurst, NC. I believe the course he works at is called Pine Wild. His fiance is the buyer for the pro shop at Pinehurst Resort. I'm sure if you guys had questions about the area I could find out answers for you.

Tot Hill Farm is a little outside of Pinehurst, it's the same designer as Tobacco Road. Two of my all time favorite courses

The course I played was schweet and its like 20 mins east of Raleigh.
