I didnt feel as bad last night in not allowing Chapman to finish. The other day I just had a bad feeling. BUT i would not have complained if Chapman did finish out.

I think they dont put him in the closer's role because they feel he will be in the rotatio pretty soon, and dont wanna demote Marshall, and then promote him when Chapman goes into the rotation. You know how managers, especially Dusty, seem to want to not change the roles of players often. If in doubt he tries to keep them in one role.

Question re: Mesoraco being a shitty catcher.

In Leake's last start he went 3 innings and gave up 6 runs. That's bad. Possibly partially Mes's fault.

What about the bullpen that went 6 innings and gave up just 1 run, 5 hits, and struck out 9? Does Mes get partial credit for that or is it only when we're talking about Leake?

One cannot put it totally on meseraco. No matter what is called if the pitcher doesnt make a quality pitch then he is gonna get hit. I dont know how it breaks down now, but after 13 starts by hanigan there was a big discrepancy.

The BP is just plain nasty and I think pretty much anyone could call a good game with them. That one lefty couldnt have hit that slider by chapman with a boat oar..and he had to know that was coming after getting buzzed up and in.

Looking back at last September, Mesoraco caught Leake twice after his call-up. Leake pitched a total of 17 innings in the 2 starts and had 3 earned runs.

Sure, we can give mes credit for the bullpen numbers. Still doesn't take away the 6 ERs by leake (partly leakes fault) or the 2-11 record as a starter

No matter what pitch is thrown it comes down to making it a good one. It can be the perfect pitch call but if it is in a bad location then it does no good.

There are other things between the catcher and pitcher than just what is called.

I think the catcher does come into play though in being on the same page as the pitcher. The pitcher has an idea on what he wants to throw, and it makes if flow better and in a rythm when the catcher calls what the pitcher is thinking. The catcher is the on field pitching coach. He should be able to help the pitcher make some adjustments before it gets too far out of control

Yeah I don't really buy into the whole catcher being responsible for a pitcher's performance. I think some guys may be more comfortable with one catcher or another, but there is no way in my mind that it has a quantifiable effect on the pitcher's ERA or other statistics.

It just reeks of people looking for something to blame for a player's regression. Hey I know, let's blame the actual player that's regressed!
