Depends on what you consider "expensive." On average, MLS tickets are cheaper than most other sports -- baseball is one that tends to have lower prices. The cheapest Crew tickets are $22. But, you also have $10 parking fee. I will give the Crew credit in making some nice packages that are incentives to go. I got a $30 ticket with all-you-can eat buffet for their home opener, which was a nice deal.

Per game attendace is not the same as overall attendance...in no way shape or form is soccer or hockey as popular as nba, nfl, or mlb...period

When comparing sports with different season lengths, per game and average attendence is most definitely the proper statistic. The NBA has 80 games. MLS has 34 games per season. Overall attendence is not a good comparison at all.

Well...the overall attendance is NOT going to happen. How can anyone compete with the amount of games that EVERY other league plays? The MLS has fewer games than every other league in the US. Regardless, the MLS is a growing league and is popular in many areas. It's only going to get bigger and better. No other league is only 16 years old either...

If that was your argument to begin with, then why did you link a site that was talking about per game attendance? Seems like you are crawfishing now.

my point is that is the reason the nba would have a lower average per game...you have more games to choose from and you dont have to worry about missing a game..longer season and more games to dilute your average...also more crappy teams that get no attendance...charlotte, wizards, etc...if you only had 19 teams in nba im sure that average would be higher. if soccer is so dang popular why do they only have 19 teams anyway?

im not saying its unpopular, but the fact that people dont support the crew shouldnt be used to say that they wouldnt support nba..because IMO the nba is more popular and has more fans

Uhh you know why it has more attendance? They play in f***ing stadiums!!! :laugh:The NHL and NBA play in 20k seat arenas, how should they beat soccer teams playing in football stadiums. You can't even make the comparison. Look at ratings, that's your true measure

Your point continues to change...

I mentioned that the MLS is only 16 years old...see a reason why it "only" has 19 teams? You cannot expand too rapidly. You have to ensure financial stability in expansion. Heck, even many NBAers would say that the NBA would benefit from reducing the amount of teams.

Again, soccer is growing. It's not going to be "the most popular sport in America" by any means, but it's definitely not bottom of the barrel as others make it out to be. Every sport had it's growing pains. Soccer was the first sport to sell out Giants Stadium...so, it's not like the NFL was always this popular.

How many teams did the NBA have in it's 16th year?

Hint- damn near on par with the MLS

There is only 1 team over 21k average in the MLS

my first post said that i thought that the crew would have a great year in attendance... i think that they probably will set a record...im not hating on soccer. i plan to hit a few crew games this year for the first time. soccer is growing...soccer probably is on par with nba in its early years....my point was that it is not even close to being as popular as MLB,NBA,NFL...that is not the same as saying its unpopular. It is just dwarfed by the others.

There are 13 of the 19 that play in soccer specific stadiums. The Seattle Sounders could almost qualify since they make moves to make the stadium more "soccer specific" during games.

Of the remaining, only Vancouver and San Jose are in the works of getting soccer-specific stadiums. New England and DC are the last two that don't have a soccer stadium and definitely hurt the attendance rates -- stupid Bob Craft.

Most soccer-specific stadiums are setting around 20,000-25,000. So...where does that conflict with the NHL and NBA? I should start blaming the NFL for having bigger stadiums too. Shame on them. Make them smaller so it looks better for the other sports!

Depends on what you look at. The NFL and MLB are much higher in attendance. I would never argue that the MLS could get HIGHER attendance, EVER, than those two. But I would definitely argue that the MLS more popular than the NHL and NBA. I would also venture to say there is more upside to the MLS than the NHL and NBA. With the attendance numbers that international soccer and international club tours have in the US, it also goes to show that soccer is VERY popular.

I don't think the Crew will have a great year in attendance. I don't think they'll get close to ANY attendance records they may have. They claimed to have 18,000 at their home opener...that was a stretch -- I was there. The last two home games drew somewhere around 10,000-12,000 each...POOR! Columbus Crew Stadium seats over 22,000...barely filling half of the stadium is bad.

Even before the bump for the new stadium, they were in the top half of the league in attendance as far back as 2005, the first year I could easily find IL attendance stats.
