I purposely did it.
I had every intention to propose to my wife. Just asked her. And yes, I asked her father.

I asked her on Christmas Eve in '03. Just wrapped the empty box as a gift. She opened it, nothing there. Got done on one knee and pulled it out my pocket and asked her.
Hell no I didn't ask her parents.

Fountain Square in Cincinnati on a July 4th 2001 after a day Reds game and dinner. I said some stupid stuff about this is Independace Day and I'm willing to give up my independence and form a union, blah, blah, blah, while sitting next to her. She didn't get it until I got on my knee. There were others around and they all started applauding.
I did call her Dad and ask permission as I had never met him. He said who am I to say no. I haven't even met you, but I won't stop you.

In front of the fountain at Levis Commons in Perrysburg. I had a friend of mine drive to the fountain and set up some things for me. I had some flowers and a note set up. One of the few people I know that have actual engagement pictures. My friend hid in the bushes and took pictures of the whole thing. Took her out for dinner and a movie for her birthday and told her I wanted to go see the fountain all lit up or some BS.
I asked her dad but didn't even tell her mom. Her mom doesn't know how to keep her fucking mouth shut.

You could propose on purpose in front of a porpoise if you go to Sea World to pop the question.
I put it in writing in the form of note attached to a bottle of Champagne and then I asked her again after she read what I wrote. The note is on the cover of our wedding album.
I did not ask her father formally...in retrospect, it would have been a nice touch.

I have been engaged twice, married once. Asked father on both occasions. I proposed some time in August, underneath some fire works. I was drunk, too, so that was cool. Been drunk ever since.

I ask her father for permission.
On Christmas Eve I had a large Cedar Hope Chest delivered to her house with a big red bow.</SPAN>
On Christmas I brought over 12 wrapped boxes. Each box had a number in order of un-wrapping</SPAN>
Reach box contained something about our relationship that she should save in the Hope Chest. The last box had a key to the chest. When she open it there was a stuff animal that I had won her at Cedar Point, around the neck was a ribbon with “Will you married me” under the stuff dog was a small box tapped to the bottom of the Hope Chest with a ring inside.
We still have the Hope Chest .. filled with 12 boxes</SPAN>

It's not up to her father so I didn't ask.
As for the wife, we were going out to dinner on Valentine's Day and I was going to ask her then but the day before I just couldn't wait. As we were getting into bed I told her I had something I wanted her to wear to dinner tomorrow and gave her the ring and asked her then.
