I guess I am getting old, but I do emphathize with the school here. Wearing this t-shirt will just lead to to many distractions. I can undertand the message the kid wants to send, but he can do that on his own time.

How does he know Jesus is not a homophobe? I know the Catholic Church has a lot of pedophiles, but that's still presumptuous. I mean, one could argue the mere existence of homophobes is actually the Lord working in mysterious ways.

The problem is it's really a deliberately offensive affront on the belief system of others couched as a positive affirmation of who he is. I doubt you would support a student wearing "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" t-shirts. I don't think we should condone such counter-productive or negative forms of expression in our children. It's inappropriate to express yourself in a way that mocks or ridicules someone else.

LMAO, wait a minute, the most ridiculous part of all this is the fact that HE'S SUING!!! Wow, what an egregious sense of entitlement. You made your point and got some attention, they told you not to wear the shirt, now move on. Of course, that's not good enough. When is it ok to say "life ain't fair, deal with it?" Does that not apply to some people?

Why is this lawsuit not being ridiculed like we would if some soccer mom was suing over little Johnny being a bad dodgeball player?

I just hate how anyone and everyone is labeled a homophobe anymore. From Merriam-Webster:

irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

I have no problem supporting gays who get beaten up or severely ridiculed for who they. Show me a petition to stop this behavior and I'll sign it. What bugs me is how anyone who personally have disagreements with the lifestyle on religious or moral grounds to be cast in the same lot as a bunch of idiots who are putting a curb-stomping to some guy named Terry wearing a dog-collar and leather pants. People have the right to not agree with how everyone lives their life.

The kid is fighting for the right to express a positive opinion. Bullying by homophobes have driven gay kids to their deaths. How about "Jesus is not a misogynist", but of course that might offend wife beaters and Rush Limbaugh dittoheads. "Jesus is not a racist" too offensive to bigots. I would think everyone of those slogans promote a postive message and a positive view of Christ.

Why couldn't he do that with the shirt still on? Maybe the school should stfu about a completely inoffensive t-shirt.

He could, but unfortunately for him, the school will not allow that. He should again, just stfu and move on. When I was in hs people had to change their shirts all the time, some offensive, some not. Why sue and bring more attention?

2. Standing up for what is right should not have to be delayed until he is in college.
3. What he did is not disruptive to the learning process. (Tinker v DesMoine Schools)
4. Opposing bullying of gays is a good cause and attention should be brought to it.

Ok, he's suing. What damages are being sought? Monetary or just the right to wear the shirt? What's gonna happen, if he shows other examples of kids wearing similarly distractive shirts, is the school will just crack down on all shirts and hes gonna ruin it for everyone.

I agree with all of this. I'm not offended by the shirt, but the school says he cannot wear it. So he decides to sue? Sorry, its stupid and a waste of time.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I actually agree with CC. IMO, its attention whoring.
