I like the Nebraska idea, but that isn't an option at least right now, is it? I don't like either Rutgers or Syracuse but I do understand that wanting to open up a Northeast market is financially attractive to the Big Ten. Pitt adds nothing but a rivalry with Penn State and Louisville offers even less. OSU doesn't want Cincinnati in the Big Ten, as they already have their rivalry games with Michigan and Penn State and they don't want to bring Cincy up to their level in recruiting. That leaves Missouri, a decent Big 12 school but not great, I don't get goose bumps with the thought of playing them. The best option will always be Notre Dame but at least for now that will not happen. Of the real options, probably Missouri and Rutgers/Syracuse make the most sense.

Missouri - 3rd pick
Rutgers - 6th pick
Pittsburgh - 1st pick
Louisville - 4th pick

I think Rutgers would be a great idea. It would open up the New York, New Jersey media market. And lets face it, college football is about getting as much media attettion as possiable.

what happens to the Big Least if we take a team from them? Do they lose their BCS birth auto-bid?

WVU isn't a member of the AAU, 62 of the leading research universities in the US and Canada. Every Big 10 school is a member. WVU isn't. Nebraska and Missouri are both members, as are Syracuse, Pitt, and Rutgers.

What do you mean "if it is for all sports"? The AAU is an academic association, and the CIC won't accept a non-AAU university, therefore, the Big Ten cannot athletically take a non-AAU school.

Not really. CFW has Nebraska as #1 in winning pct. since 1970. Pitt is 40th. Heck even in the last 10 years, which Nebraska has been down the most, Nebraska is ranked in the top 20. After this year I think the only big 10 team with more wins in the last 10 years is OSU. Again this is with Nebraska being down. Pitt is ranked 52nd in the last 10 years.

If it's a football decision, Nebraska makes the most sense.

Pitt, Mizzou, or UC are my picks. Can't go wrong with any of the schools on there though....Louisville, Rutgers, and Syracuse are all pretty intriguing also.

Here's the overall record of all Pitt coaches in the last 20 years:

Wannstedt: 34-25 (2 winning seasons out of 5)
Harris: 52-44 (5 winning seasons out of 8)
Majors: 12-32 (0 winning seasons in 4)
Hackett: 13-20-1 (1 winning season in 3)

I don't really call 8 out of 20 winning seasons and an overall record below .500 "consistently good". Even if you take just the last two coaches, they've been moderately successful but barely have a winning record in half of their seasons.

The Big Ten is not the kind of conference to take a school on a football only basis.

The Big10 should tell the BE to kick Notre Dame out. This would force ND's hand as they would need a conference for BB and olympic sports. This would also protect the BE from a raid.

Michigan State was not an AAU member when they first joined on. They only received it ten years later when the B10 lobbied for them. They still are at the bottom of the B10 on an academic basis. Several of the potential candidates are better academic institutions than MSU (Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse).

MSU is one of the mega professional schools though, so they do have that going for them.
