he needs to retire. I hate athletes that hang on too long and go to another team to wither away.

Same here.

Sucks he had to go like this, but it was time. Definitely one of the GOAT Steelers and one of my favorites to ever wear the black and gold.

Until he signs with your team then you'll love his smile, right?

Sad, but happens with every athlete. He should just retire as a Steeler. He has nothing else to prove.

If I paid you his salary, would you make the same decision?

A great Steeler is no more . One of my favorites . A team would be stupid not to pick up this great leader especially a young team . He is the bipolar opposite of the T.O. type

Old and slow. The real question is, why WOULD any team pick him up and waste the money. Buh-bye Whines.

Thank you for the memories Mr. Ward! Will miss the smile and the leadership he brought to the Black and Gold. Will depart as the All time leader in catches, yardage and touchdowns for the Steelers. Ward also ranks 8th on the NFL All time receptions list. To go along with his 2 Super Bowl rings and 1 Super Bowl MVP.

Will he retire? Is he still one of the best blocking WR's? He may not be as good of a receiver but could he still he useful to a team, I wondering.

Are word on if the Steelers are going to try and resign him? I've heard some rumors float around before that they might try and resign him at the vet min.

This is what I was thinking. He really doesn't have much value as a player anymore than a mentor to the younger guys.

From his facebook last night it seems he is under the impression he is done as a Steeler. 10+ minimum is like $925,000 and the Steelers are having trouble getting money to the long term guys.

Ah I see, they're pretty far over the cap. I wonder who will be next to get cut. Looking at the roster no one obvious is jumping out to me.

Yeah, unfortunately I think Hines was the "easy decision". There is talk here and there that they may have to let Wallace go too just because of the size of contract he deserves. That would be mega suck.

RGiii in a Browns uni with Hines as a Cleveland WR. Hines Ward can still block pretty good for sweep plays, I think?

imo- Keep playing as long as you can. It's nobodys say how long Hines should stay around. So what if he's not as good as he once was. If he's good enough to be in the NFL, keep playing!

T.O. in arena league I question more then Hines not retiring.

i think he wants to keep playing and i dont blame him. i cant imagine he would play for baltimore or that they would want him. bengals makes more sense with their young recieving core and so much cap room, but after he broke dudes jaw a couple years ago i doubt they would want him. I cant see another team out of the division really appreciating his skills and wanting to sign him tho.

No thanks on Ward. Some guys are just better left as career Steelers.

For others, what's the deal with their cap situation? I was under the impression with the purging & restructuring that they were now under the cap?

Like Gblock touched on- Hines Ward would be great for a young team. Young QB with some newer WR's= Ward fits.
His numbers were lower for the Steelers, does not mean he could not be a productive #2 or #3 receiver elsewhere.

I don't know if HW would even play for the Browns or maybe it would be extra motivation.....dude can still hit.

Would be fun.
