To be honest, I still don't even really know what your point is?? You're just making your total argument based on an "assumption" that Locker will be a better pro if he stays one more year in college? Totally disregarding the fact that he would make a shitload of money RIGHT NOW if he decided to come out? Your whole argument is borderline ridiculous. No one is buying what you're trying to sell, so it's hard to admit you have a "damn good point".

Look at the successful QB's in the league and how long they stayed in college...look at all the examples of guys that came out early and flopped...listen to guys who know, they played the position, and how they talk about how much you grow as a player in that last year of college and how you're more NFL ready.

Alright, I'm done for real. Clearly a pointless argument, you aren't going to agree with me--I DO agree with you that he is passing up a lot of money but I don't necessarily think it's a stupid move but you don't even want to consider what I have to say. But it's pointless because he's going back to school regardless of what anyone here says.

Jamarcus Russell signed a 68 million dollar deal with 31.5 million guaranteed. When that's up he's going to be making back up money--so compared to Eli Manning, chump change.

Just proves my point though--look at that extension he got. If you're good then you'll make your money down the road. Staying four years gives you a hell of a lot better chance of success.
Damn you're passionate about this..the only problem is that the Eli deal is a definite exception, not the rule. In no way is Locker sitting back saying, "gee I'm going to be making that money and having all kinds of endorsements since Eli did". It's still dumb to pass the UP FRONT, GUARANTEED cash. He will learn just as much as a backup in the NFL for a year or two - one more year in college will do very little, if anything, to improve his abilities.


Do you honestly think that a team is going to pay him the kind of money you say they will to be a backup?? Especially the team that would get him, if he was good enough to be paid that much money (#1 QB taken?) who the hell would they put him behind? Is Tim Rattai still in the league lol? Flacco, Sanchez, Stafford, Leinhart, Russell hell even Josh Freeman in Tampa (who wasn't even good in college, still wondering what the hell the Bucs saw in him). Up front, guaranteed cash is great. But as the saying goes, "if it sounds too good to be true, than it usually is". Up front cash in TODAY'S NFL means you're getting thrown into the fire as a rookie and expected to produce. There is no "sit and be a backup for a few years anymore". Why? Because they're not going to guaranteed you 40 million f*cking dollars so you can sit on the bench for half of your rookie contract!! If you aren't ready, you're toast. Not to mention, if you're that high of a draft pick, you're not being put in a good situation. The teams that pick you are BAD. So not only do you have to be ready pretty much right away, you're expected to produce on a terrible team. And what's at stake is your playing reputation; if you lose that, nobody's going to pay you shit after your rookie contract expires. Sorry, but nobody's going to pay JRuss or Alex Smith more than backup money.

It's really about being thrown in head first vs. easing into the league. If you get thrown into a bad team, and survive and can produce, then sure you are a pretty good QB. The problem with your logic is that the vast majority of the kids who come out early aren't prepared to do that ON A BAD TEAM. The only way to "be a backup for a few years" anymore is to be drafted later. Most teams don't draft you as their starter; do you honestly think the Lions drafted Stafford last year and didn't intend that he would be their starter by the end of preseason? When you go later, you're viewed as that "backup" you talked about, who will learn and develope into a good QB someday. Of course, you're not payed like the starter either; but you have a much higher chance of learning and becoming a solid QB, and thus making your money down the road. I understand your "take the money and run" philosophy, but the problem is that most guys that do that aren't able to produce up to the expectations that come along with that money; therefore, the exceptions to the rule are the ones that can, and the rule is that MOST aren't ready to do that coming out early.

^Yes I do. Which is a response by the league to guard against just the thing I was talking about in my above post. Why do you think there is going to be a rookie cap people??? Because NFL teams are sick of having to guarantee guys 30-40 mil. just to get them, only to have them bust!
