I think KU's chance to get Wiggins ended once Randle committed to Kentucky. I really think the only way he was going to Kansas was if Randle was there. Not that they're necessarily a package deal, but the Jayhawks are losing a lot of talent this year to graduation and to the draft.

That could be competely wrong, though, because FSU isn't gonna have that much talent, and Carolina could be ravaged by early entrants as well. Just kind of the impression I got from the whole thing.

It's early, but unlikely everyone had fully gotten their reports back from scouts and agents (not until after the Tournament), but with the guys last year, there wasn't any direct evidence about anyone returning, and everyone left. Just from following Goodwin and Cauley-Stein on Twitter and listening to their recent interviews, I'd be surprised if either opt for the pros.

I based my opinion on who UK will have coming back on Cauley-Stein and Goodwin both being projected as first round picks, and Cauley-Stein as high as eight or nine in some. I think Stein should leave while his stock still that high. It might not be next year playing in the shadow of some of the kids UK has coming in.

Yeah, I, and a lot of KU people, thought there was a pretty decent chance Randle could play for Self. Although I was not at all surprised to see him go to UK. I just didn't ever think we were going to get Randle..although if he was going to play for KU, it would have been if Randle was going to, as well...like you said.

Heard Kentucky will be getting Mr. Basketball from the state of Kentucky, Dominique Hawkins, tomorrow. That makes 8 players for the 2013 class, with Wiggins and Gordon still out there. Even with transfers/early entrants, how the hell will Calipari make this work? lol

It does but I saw Hawkins play once and came away really impressed. Like Azu said, he could play at a decent school instead of walking on to Kentucky.

One Kentucky guy to look out for though is James Bolden. Point guard who is the real deal from Northern Kentucky. Has handles, great shot, and the clutch gene.

Yeah, for the most part, Ky. HS bball stinks. I don't know the kid or his situation, but like I said, unless he's a die hard UK fan and isn't worried at all about finances, walking on at UK would make no sense. He could go somewhere like Murray State or Western Kentucky and be a top OVC or Sun Belt player as a Freshman. He's easily worthy of a ride at another SEC program. Look at Anthony Hickey at LSU? Calipari considered him, but had already taken Ryan Harrow as a transfer and Marquis Teague, so he did not offer (even with a few rides available). Hawkins is better than Hickey was. I think, eventually, he could play a Cliff Hawkins/DeAndre Liggins type role for UK. From what I've seen (highlights) and read, he had a bigger impact this past year than either Darius Miller or Scottie Hopson did.

I'll believe it when I see it, whether he gets a scholarship or not. It just doesn't make sense for him to commit to UK without a guarantee of a full ride...

Like you alluded to, I guess if you were Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky and grew up a Wildcat fan, you'd probably want to go there no matter what. Reminds me of Cameron Mills, in a way. He started at UK as a walk-on, correct? He turned out to be a pretty damn good three-point specialist for the Wildcats in the late '90s but I think he probably could have starred at another SEC school during that era. UK was just too loaded for him to be anything other than a role player.

Friday, Calipari spoke to Hawkins and indicated there would not be a scholarship offer right now. Hawkins stated he would not make a commitment to UK until later in the Spring. Calipari met with Andrew Wiggins yesterday. It sounds like Cal does want Hawkins and Hawkins wants UK, but we'll see. His other offers right now are from WKU, Morehead State, Arkansas and South Carolina.

At this point, it's not looking like Arkansas would be a good destination for anyone. Mike Davis has been very disappointing in a horrible conference. He better reach the NCAA Tournament in the next two years or he's finished.

Mike Anderson you mean? I agree. Unfortunately, Marshawn Powell is going pro. B.J. Young is likely going pro. Anderson is recruiting well (he's got 2 top 50 big men, including 5-star and #2 center Bobby Portis) and he does bring in one of the biggest impact transfer (Alandise Harris from Houston). If they keep Young for one more year, they would be definitely preseason top 3 in the SEC.

The staff at IU was retarded at the time. They wanted Knight gone (which, lets face it, he needed to be fired...probably never given the "Zero-Tolerance" policy). But then Davis gets the nod because he has Jared Jeffries coming in (among other players).

Obviously Hood and Polson can probably be moved to walk-on status. Hawkins, if he goes to UK, can be a walk-on as well. Essentially, Hood and Polson's schollies are there for Wiggins and Gordon if they want to come to Lexington.

Hood is graduating, Polson started as a walk-on. I'd think that if both wanted a ride, they would get one. Hood automatically has one if he chooses to play his Senior year, but he's had an injury-plagued career and may end up pursuing other opportunities outside of basketball. I gave my thoughts before above, I am not sold on Hawkins getting an offer to UK, which is unfortunate. He shouldn't accept a walk-on...way too good for that.

The only guy I'm confident about returning is Archie Goodwin. I'd say Kyle Wiltjer will be around as well, unless Cal gives him some sort of ultimatum, he wants to be here I think.

How legit is the story about Harrow's father? I definitely hate that he's in poor health, and I understand the decision to be closer to him, but do you think this is kind of an attempt to save face? It seems like Harrow was a bit of a problem this year for the UK program, so to me, it seems like this is an easy way to justify leaving without throwing the kid under the bus publicly.

Not sure. It would make sense, but it would also "make sense." Hopefully he gets his stuff together and it turns out to be a good move for him.
