Try leangains. I started it about a month ago, and it def has been helpful. Less of a pain in the ass to deal with too.ernest_t_bass;1332626 wrote:Yeah, diet is probably the hardest part, at least sticking to it for 7 straight days. I just read that the Rangers and Dodgers are in a bidding war over Grienke right now in the $160 million dollar range.
That is a shit ton of money for a guy who is a really good pitcher, but (at least IMO) not in the Verlander/Sabathia/Hernandez type of true #1 league.
Now we can see why the Dodgers owners spent $2 billion on the team.
THeir new local TV deal is going to pay them roughly $280 million a year over the next 25 years.
Frank McCourt wanted to sell those TV rights for a quick $2-3 billion instead of the $6-7 billion they ended up getting. I guess Bud Selig did good stepping in and putting a stop to that.

Especially since doesn't Greinke have big-time anxiety issues? I seem to remember reading about that back when he was in KC, in the context of how it was a real struggle for him early in his career.IggyPride00;1336901 wrote:I just read that the Rangers and Dodgers are in a bidding war over Grienke right now in the $160 million dollar range.

If so, I'd be a bit leery of spending big money for him just because with that money in a big market comes a lot of pressure and I could see him crack and become a monumental waste of cash if things start going wrong.

Grienke signed with the Dodgers reportedly for 6 years $147 million tongiht, new highest paid pitcher in history.
Good God are the Dodgers throwing money around.
From what they spent on the team, to what they have spent on salary since they bought it George Steinbrenner in his prime would be in awe.
If that is what they pay Grienke, what does that make Kershaw worth when they try and sign an extension in 2 years?
I would think realistically he would be asking for 8 years, $200 million as he will be 3+ years younger at the start of the deal and is a better pitcher.
This deal totally blows up the market for starting pitcher prices, as if it wasn't bad enough before.

His saber stats are very low....but I really like him and how he goes about it. He has quietly and professional compiled excellent numbers year after year, never missing and getting moved to 4 different positions without ever complaining. I hope he can throw 3 more pretty good seasons and give the HOF a run.

Greinke will receive a $12M signing bonus with a $17MM salary in 2013, $24MM in 2014, $23MM in 2015, $24MM in 2016, $23MM in 2017, and $24MM in 2018. A total of $147M over 6 years.

Money committed since they bought the team this year:
• Zack Greinke is about to earn approximately $147 million through 2018.
• Adrian Gonzalez is owed $127 million through 2018.
• Carl Crawford is due $102.5 million through 2017.
• Matt Kemp has $108 million coming through 2019.
• Andre Ethier is owed $85 million through 2017.
Throw in at least $150 million for a Kershaw extension which will get done next year, and they will be in the neighborhood of having spent almost 3/4 of a billion ($720 million) dollars in committed salary to 6 guys.
Once Kershaw gets his extension, they will have 5 guys on the roster making 20+ million. The Yankees hold the all-time record at 3.
We have never seen spending at this level on this scale before. It is amazing.

Obviously every team's fans want their organization to spend money and get the big free agent. But, how many of those huge $100mill, long year contracts do teams look back on and go "Yea, we made the right move". I have the feeling the Dodgers will be looking back in 5 years when they're a middle of the pack team in the west and say "wow, what were we thinking?"

I am sure there are other examples, but the only one I can even think of that looking back the team got the value out of him was Jeter's original 10/$190 Million deal that ran from 2000-2010. He pretty much played at the Jeter level for the decade without missing much time with injury. But, how many of those huge $100mill, long year contracts do teams look back on and go "Yea, we made the right move".
For pitchers so far I think Sabathia has done about what the Yankees had hoped when they gave him the 7/161 million 4 years ago. Long time to go still.
Other than those, most of the $100 million+ deals I can think of have involved long stretches of time on the DL, or general under performance as their deals wore on.

Good call on Jeter. How will the Yankees look back on the A-Rod deal? He was pretty important to the '09 World Series, but is 1 world series worth that money?

The A-Rod deal is possibly the biggest albatross in MLB history.Benny The Jet;1338996 wrote:Good call on Jeter. How will the Yankees look back on the A-Rod deal? He was pretty important to the '09 World Series, but is 1 world series worth that money?
He was done as of last year, and they still owe him like 5 years and $120 million more and he is shot right now. That hip condition is likely degenerative, and will continue to get worse as time goes on.
He will be a $25 million dollar a year singles hitter that can't play the field effectively for the rest of his career likely.
Without the roids, 38 is old again. I see no reason to believe he is going to have a massive late career resurgence considering his health issues.
