The fact is that Rick Nash is the face of the franchise and obviously the best player in franchise history. He's also the only guy on the roster capable of making the All-Star team next year and being Columbus' representative when they host the game. I don't think any contender has the assets to truly give the Jackets fair market value for Nash. IMO you try to move Carter and Mason as best as you can, let the season play out, hopefully get Nail in the draft, then move forward with Nash and Nail as the centerpieces.
No one wants those two. Carter is a huge baby and Mason shouldn't be a starter. Granted Carter has the talent, but man did his stock take a hit, all he's done is complain about being in Cbus. Mason had a great rookie year and should probably be in the minors to get the stress of being a starting goalie off his shoulders. I'd only take a chance on Carter if i were a top 4 team in a conference, other wise he's worthless IMO
LA, NYR, Bos (would have no problem with them trading Rask, a prospect and draft pick for nash), Van and Philly have the young players and assets to make it a fair trade. I do agree they probably need a new GM, they have a horrible draft track record.
Since i'm not a Cbus fan, i'd love to see him get traded and see how he does on a playoff contender.
