In better news, Pirates did acquire LHP Wandy Rodriguez from the Astros. 7-9 this year with a 3.79 ERA and 89 K's in 21 starts this year.

Not a division changing trade IMO. Wandy has been rapidly decreasing the last 2 years. K's way down and era going up. BUT he's solid for the back end I suppose.

Guessing pirates still try to get a bat which is def their bigger need.

Yeah, it's not a major move but I think it bolsters the Pirate staff a bit. And yes, they're still looking for a bat. Of course, they may already have one if they'd ever give Marte a chance by calling him up. SMH

C'mon Huntington! Bring up Marte!

Heading over to PNC tomorrow. Hope they can turn it around. Would be embarrassing to get swept by the Cubs.

From what I read on a blog:

1. Wandy's numbers should improve in Pittsburgh simply because their park is more friendly for left-handed pitchers.

2. None of the losses are of real consequence. Owens was a back-end guy in the rotation and likely wouldn't have been any real help this year, at least. Cain will be lucky to wind up a back-end guy in the rotation. Grossman's main attribute has been his ability to get on base. As a young guy goes up in a system, they find more and more pitchers who are competent enough to not walk guys with good discipline all the time, which makes it harder and harder for them to stand out. Last year, he was their organizational player of the year at high-A Bradenton. This year, he's batting .250 at AA Altoona.

3. At the least, it's a low-risk, low-reward move. More preferably, it improves the rotation a good bit.

Pirates up 3-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. If they can hold on, it looks like Correia will get the win in what might be his last game as a starter. Unless Hurdle does something creative, which is what Correia tweeted, with the rotation. Right now, my idea of "creative" would involve giving McDonald a start off, as he's given three straight sub-par ones since the break.

Pirates won 3-2. At least they avoided getting swept.

Been waiting for this move for over a month. Funny things is...all he has to do is bat .250 with a little pop and he'll easily be the best left fielder on the roster. By a long ways...which is kinda sad when you think about it.

This is a sad, funny and factual statement. I will continue drinking now.

5-0. Barmes hit a blast too. Pirates look to move to 7-0 against the Astros this season.

Hanrahan nailed it down for a 5-3 last night. Burnett moves to 12-3 on the season.

In one day, Starling Marte takes his spot at the top of the list of all-time MLB best players!

Well, that MIGHT be a bit of an exaggeration, but when you've been waiting two months for the team to bring him up and he starts out 2-4 with a homer, it's hard not to be enthused.

Wandy will start Saturday night vs. his former team and Correia is now bumped from the rotation to the bullpen.

Corriea is pissed and wants a trade. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Won't get much for him.
