Got 4 with the Astros this week. If they're gonna make a move, this is the week. I decided to make a mini-vacation of it and got tickets for Tues and Weds. Got a room and will check out the fireworks on the 4th too.

Blowout win last night. Both Reds and Cards won too, so they didn't move up in the standings or anything, but it was a good win!

Wake up in the morning. See Pirates in sole possession of first. All is right in the world. Time to go for the sweep of the Stros tonight. Hopefully, Karstens can make it two straight good starts.

SWEEP 'em out of town! Bucs win 2-0 and are now 10 games over .500. Good to see Karstens have a strong outing.
Got a tough series coming up with the Giants, then the All Star Break.

Pirates with a 2 game lead in the division following another Reds loss.
Barring a major collapse...the Pirates should at least be in the hunt for a Wild Card for a couple months. I think they stay in the NL Central hunt throughout though.

Team is just playing great right now. The key will be if they can keep it up into the death month of August where dreams have gone to die most every year they've looked remotely competent over the past eternity. Last year, I couldn't believe how quick things went downhill, so I'm hoping nothing like that happens again.
They have stronger pitching peripherals, so that's not as much of a concern, as last year it seemed like everyone reverted to their expected norm late in the year. Big thing will be the offense not going into a team-wide tailspin.

I hate the pirates!!!!! How dare they steal first place from the Reds! Actually i don't mind them. As long as they finish in 2nd of course.

Lost 6-5 to Zito and the Giants. Reds up 3-0 so the lead will be just 1 in the next hour or so barring a Padre rally. Still, I'll take a 1-game lead in the division in July.

Second-best team in the NL and fourth overall at the All-Star Break. That might have exceeded my expectations by 10-20 games.
McCutchen currently is the best player in baseball. Just on an amazing tear, batting something like .550 over the last couple weeks AND McDonald/Burnett have given them a great 1-2 rotation punch AND Grilli/Hanrahan have to be in the mix for the top 8th-9th inning duo in the game so far this year.
