I'll be having folks over my house as well...just like I do nearly every UFC PPV.

I'm getting the ppv.
So who does everyone think will win the main events? I'm going with Penn and Couture.

I'll go with Edgar and Couture. Edgar is just too fast for Penn.
Penn can win if he can get it on the ground or land a big shot to then get it on the ground, but I don't think he can take Edgar down to be honest.
I think Penn is a better/more skilled fighter than Edgar, but the matchup is just perfect for Edgar and horrible for Penn.

Toney needed some underwear that fit during the weigh in's. Half of his ass was hanging out. Btw, he weighed in at 237!

Will be ordering with a bunch of friends tomorrow night. My heart says Edgar, but my head says Penn...will just have to wait and see. And Couture will destroy Toney...hands down!
Question...I am pretty much a noob when it comes to UFC as I have only been watching for a few months...as such I have a question....
What is the connection between UFC and WEC? I noticed watching WEC the other night that they have all the same Refs and even Stephen Bonner is doing announcing...plus they have Bruce Buffer and Dana White announced some things as well. Just curious the connection and if many people go from one to the other or if WEC is like the minor leagues of UFC or something? Any information will be helpful.

WEC is also owned by Zuffa as is the UFC. State athletic commissions assign the refs not the organizations.

WEC is like the minor league for the UFC.
I think Penn is going to win pretty convincingly. When the dude actually trains he's untouchable.
Couture should win big. I don't even buy into the "well if he gets hit with one good one he's going to sleep" thing either. Toney was never a power puncher and he definitely wasn't one when he moved up to heavy weight. Plus it's not like boxers are somehow superhuman punchers. They have better head movement and handspeed usually but their power isn't that much better normally. Everyone can get caught with a one hit knockout but it's pretty rare and I don't expect it. Toney isn't Mike Tyson or anything. And the idea that Toney can stop a takedown is hilarious. Let's look at Couture's wrestling pedigree: State Champion in high school, three time olympic alternate (88, 92, 96), semifinalist in 2000 Olympic trials, three time NCAA DI all-american and two time runner-up. Toney is not going to be able to stop a takedown. I don't care if all he's worked on for the last few months is wrestling. It isn't going to happen.
I'm going to try to find a bar that's playing it. Anyone know of any in the Alliance-Salem area that is?

Not quite. The WEC has lower weight classes (bantamweight, featherweight, and lightweight), while the UFC has the heavier classes (lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight). They do share the lightweight class, where the UFC has the better fighters in that division, so you are right there.I Wear Pants;463863 wrote:WEC is like the minor league for the UFC.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. I have a feeling the UFC will adopt the lighter classes once there are enough quality fighters/more interest in them.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's fights. I think it will be an above average card, and worth the buy.
I'm gonna have to take Penn in this rematch. He has only lost back-to-back fights once in his career. When BJ's head is in the game, he is a dominant fighter. He is one of the best in the world, and is going to be out to prove it again versus Edgar.
I also see Couture making easy work of Toney. Randy's wrestling is going to play a huge roll in the outcome of this fight. I just don't see Toney being able to overcome this HUGE deficit going into the fight. I don't expect he will have much of any kind of offense once this fight leaves the feet.
I'm also looking forward to the Gray Maynard/Kenny Florian fight. I personally thought that Maynard deserved a shot at Penn before Edgar the first time around, so I'm glad to see him get his shot at a title shot now. KenFlo is definitely a great gate keeper at 155, and were it not for Penn he may have been a champion some time ago. I just don't think he can match up with/beat BJ. I look for this to be a highly competitive fight, and will not be surprised with whoever wins. I'm pulling for Maynard though. Hopefully by something other than a decision. For him to become an elite fighter in the minds of fans around the world, Maynard needs to start finishing his opponents vice riding his wrestling ability to decision victory after decision victory.

An AVG. card.. You are one of those people who could Pick all the fights for a card. Then say it is avg or weak.

I have read the forums at Sherdog.. & MMAweekly.. etc.. where people were saying UfC 100 was weak. those are the same people I say would call any card weak. Just to be a douche..

I said what because he said it would be above average. Not average.
The people at Sherdog, etc say everything sucks and every fighter is overated. They are stupid.
Personally I've been looking forward to this card since it was announced. Very excited for it.

Experts ponder if James Toney took his matchup seriously:

So what's everybody drinking during the fights?
I've started the evening with some Chinese food and Yuengling.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly where I'm watching them. Right now my apartment is looking like the most likely candidate. If so, I'll probably pick up some Karl Strauss Red Trolley Ale for the night. If I end up at a bar, I'll drink whatever the best beer is that they have on tap.
