He threw that many punches or more to Marquardt and beat him severely.....
Also not cutting someone isn't indicative of damage inflicted. I oculd land one punch on a gu and split him, then he could beat me senseless the rest of the fight. Swelling and bruising is a more accuaret indication of damage inflicted. And thats kind of hard to tell on a non-caucasian fighter.

May not be indicitative of damage inflicted, but if you pound someone that many times...and have a few shots where silva doesnt even defend himself, actually more than a few. Youd should knock him out if you're a professional fighter, one good enoguh for a title shot at that

Maybe maybe not, he didn't knock Marquardt out either, but he inflicted plenty of damage. Most of his 289 strikes were not considered power strikes, by compustrike. I think they only had 8 of the 289 punches confirmed as "power shots" so in essence he3 could've been hit with 281 jabs...not enough to inflict a lot of damage per se.

i said after the fight that sonnens hand werent very good but u do have to remember most of his punches were lil rabbit shots with not much power behind them in the fight from two inches away. Silva did have some swelling under one eye but that was about it. Cutting someone does show that the fighter is throwing some good angled punches which are usually harder and can cause more damage.

Cro Cop and Mir is kind of interesting. I don't mind the replacement even though I would like to watch Big Nog.

I guess it depends on which Mir shows up for this fight. Mir can win this on the ground. But CC gets the KO on the feet.

Cro Cop looked decent in his last fight. Took advantage of the guys mistakes and got the submission after being rocked in the first. And if Mir eats a kick it might be all over.

Toney’s act proves too tempting to White

The UFC considered first matching him with the since-released Kimbo Slice, though Toney asked instead for heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
“He’s a big dude,” Toney said of Lesnar, “but all that means is he’ll make a bigger noise when he hits the floor after I knock his ass out.”

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter's income. They also do not include any other "locker room" or special bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays. They also do not include portions of the PPV revenue that some top-level fighters receive.
For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out $60,000 UFC 117 bonuses to Struve (Knockout of the Night), Silva and Hughes (Submissions of the Night), and Silva and Sonnen (Fights of the Night). Silva's double-bonus performance netted him an extra $120,000 in pay.
In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.

UFC 117 medical suspensions go to 14 fighters, five could be sidelined six months
http://mmajunkie.com/news/20299/ufc-117-medical-suspensions-go-to-14-fighters-five-could-be-sidelined-six-months.mma
http://mmajunkie.com/news/20299/ufc-117-medical-suspensions-go-to-14-fighters-five-could-be-sidelined-six-months.mma
CSAC doctors suspended the middleweight champion for six months or until he produces X-ray evidence that a possible fractured rib is healed. Regardless, Silva is suspended 45 days with no contact during training for 30 days for precautionary reasons. He also needs neurological clearance and a CT scan before he is allowed to fight again.
The dual suspensions are the result of the champion's toughest title defense yet, one in which Sonnen dominated for four-and-a-half rounds with brutal ground and pound before Silva was able to cinch a triangle choke in the final minutes of the 25-minute bout.
Sonnen, meanwhile, did not escape unscathed. Although he did most of the damage, he drew a 60-day suspension with no contact for 60 days as the result of a facial laceration.
Co-main-event fighters Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch walked away from their second fight without injury, though Fitch took home bragging rights with another victory over the Brazilian welterweight.
Lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos sustained one of the event's most serious injuries when his jaw was broken during his main-card fight with Clay Guida. Dos Anjos is suspended for six months and needs a clean CT scan before he is cleared to fight.
Other suspensions included:
•Junior Dos Santos: suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a right-cheek laceration
•Roy Nelson: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
•Dustin Hazelett: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons; also needs a new physical before his next fight
•hil Davis: suspended for 180 days with no contact for 180 days or until cleared by a physician due to a possible right fifth-metacarpal (pinky-finger) fracture.
•Charlie Brenneman: suspended 45 days with with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons; also needs a new physical before his next fight
•Tim Boetsch: suspended 180 days with no contact for 180 days or until cleared by physician due to a possible right-thumb fracture; regardless, suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a left-facial laceration
•Todd Brown: suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a laceration or until cleared by a physician
•Stefan Struve: suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a lower-lip laceration
•Christian Morecraft: suspended for 180 days with no contact for 180 days and also needs a CT scan of his brain; regardless, suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days due to a right-eyebrow laceration (can be cleared early by a physician) and suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
•Dennis Hallman: suspended 60 days with no contact for 60 days or until cleared by physician for left-cheek laceration
•Ben Saunders: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days for precautionary reasons
