Yeah I agree with everything you said, this is a fun superfight but it does have implications. Nick will be red hot if he somehow beats Anderson so it would only make sense to have him fight for the belt against Lawler or Hendricks.Raw Dawgin' it;1640185 wrote:I think this fight definitely has meaning. I think if Diaz wins, no matter how close, he's getting a shot at a belt, and if Lawler beats Hendricks the UFC will blow a load announcing that fight. I also think if Silva wins he should move up to 205, i have no interest in seeing him fight Weidman again, only because if he wins, I don't want a 4th fight to clog the division.

I have no problem with the Anderson vs. Diaz fight, I like it. It's just laughable that Diaz would get a MW title shot with a win.robj55;1640183 wrote:He beat Gomi when Gomi was p4p and the top LW on the planet along with BJ, and smashed a still in his prime BJ Penn. I don't see the problem with fun superfights, MMA fans always want fights to mean something, we always find something to bitch about it seems.
He beat Gomi almost 8 years ago. That is totally irrelevant, MMA has undergone a complete revolution since then. BJ was not in is his prime at all either. They are both LW's as well.

No I'm talking about a WW title shot, not MW. This is just a one off superfight, he will return to WW afterwards imo. If he wins I can almost guarantee they book him against the Hendricks vs Lawler winner.Zoltan;1640192 wrote:I have no problem with the Anderson vs. Diaz fight, I like it. I think so too, but it's a huge slap in the face to Rory and Lombard. Both of those guys would beat Diaz IMO, and would be getting passed over. It's also really a stretch to call this a super fight when both guys are coming off back to back losses. I tend to think Hendricks will defeat Lawler a little easier this time without the torn bicep. Either way, good fights coming up.robj55;1640194 wrote:No I'm talking about a WW title shot, not MW. This is just a one off superfight, he will return to WW afterwards imo. I dunno if those guys beat Nick or not, I could see Nick beating Lombard after he gasses out like he always does. Rory would be a competitive fight as well, both could go either way. Those guys will have their time, Lombard is older but isn't going anywhere and Rory is extremely young and going to be around forever. I actually like Lawler to beat Hendricks this time but it could go either way obviously. The UFC needs stars and big fights like this, have you seen how down the PPV market is? They need to cash in while they can on these guys. I know they are both coming off losses but look at strength of opposition, Silva lost to Weidman twice and Nick barely lost to Condit in a fight where the natural born killer ran mostly the entire fight and lost to the greatest WW of all time in a fight he took basically zero damage. This will be one of the biggest fights in MMA history and the build up and anticipation will be off the charts, to me that makes it a super fight. Like you said there are some awesome fights coming up in the next 6 months or so, pray for no injuries lolZoltan;1640200 wrote:I think so too, but it's a huge slap in the face to Rory and Lombard. Nick was a WW and the two wins you are talking about are LWs. He is exciting but he doesn't have hardly any big wins against guys in his weight class.robj55;1640183 wrote:He beat Gomi when Gomi was p4p and the top LW on the planet along with BJ, and smashed a still in his prime BJ Penn. If the UFC wants PPV buys they need to go back to less events per year. The cards are watered down. A few years ago the PPVs were stacked top to bottom now your lucky if there's 3 good fights. Even the card at the end of the year is shaping up to be big names that should be blowouts in Diaz vs Silva and Rousey vs Carano ( if she signs)

This goes back to what i was saying a few weeks ago - that the Diaz brothers always seemed small for 170. Nick is saying he'd like to fight at 155, 170, and 185. I think Nick Diaz at 155 would be awesome, put him in there with Cerrone.

I can't see Nick making 155, he is already very lean at 170. The Diaz brothers ideal weight class would be 163 like they had in pride. Nick says he walks around at 195, and he's pretty much always in shape so it's not like he lets himself go like Johnny Hendricks between fights. He lives a very clean lifestyle, is a vegan and a workout freak.

I agree, Nick making 155 would be an extremely rough cut and I think he'd do worse at 155 than at 170 due to being drained for the cut.
He is not a small 170, his walk around weight is about what GSP's always was, 190-195 in shape.

Lol, and his evidence is what? The fact that Silva got caught by a power hitter like Weidman?

I think Cesar has a point, Anderson used to be able to eat shots and laugh about it. When Weidman knocked him down in the second fight with a short right hand from the clinch I could tell he wasn't the same, before that would have been nothing. Not saying his chin is shot but certainly not the same. Nick is a volume striker though so not sure it matters.

The more I observe Jon Jones, the more he reminds me of A-rod. Two super talented dudes who don't really know who they are. They both come off as fake whether they are acting mean or nice, and always seem to be worried about how people think of them.Raw Dawgin' it;1641434 wrote:Can't stand Jon Jones - would love to see DC win.

Jones comes off as an arrogant asshole. His fights are great, but outside the cage he's unbearable.Zoltan;1641436 wrote:The more I observe Jon Jones, the more he reminds me of A-rod. Rule of thumb, don't grab a man's throat if you don't want punched in the face.
I've actually lost respect over the years for both of these guys (neither have been 'stellar' guys). I think most of you only like DC better because you don't "see" his bad stuff as often as you see JJ being that JJ has been in the lime light for longer.
If DC wins and stays champ for awhile, most of the same people who hate JJ will hate DC as well. I have followed him since his college and olympic wrestling career, he isn't the choir boy some people believe (obviously neither is JJ).

Could be true, but right now Jones comes off as arrogant and entitled. He just rubs me the wrong way. To me he tries to act like Rousey, except he comes off as fake.jmog;1641468 wrote:Rule of thumb, don't grab a man's throat if you don't want punched in the face.

Oh I agree that Jones comes off as arrogant and fake. I just have 'known' DC for about as long as I have 'known' Jones, and DC is no better in my opinion.Raw Dawgin' it;1641479 wrote:Could be true, but right now Jones comes off as arrogant and entitled. The worst case is that he was so self centered about how he maintained his weight going into the Olympics, that he went to China way over weight and then tried to cut it all in 1 day. He made weight but due to the extreme dehydration he went to the hospital (kidneys shutting down) and had to forfeit out of the Olympic wrestling. He was expected to medal if not win gold (had already beat the eventual gold medalist once before). You won't find it in the new MMA articles about his "toughest weight cut" but he was overweight because he was out partying/drinking just days before his weigh in (information that came out in the 'wrestling community').
He seems to be remorseful now, but at that time he seemed kind of arrogant about it all and not caring that he let his team down.
