That shit was crazy, just pure madness. I need to see Matt Brown vs Nick Diaz in my lifetime, the whole world would just stop.

Matt Brown is a tough mofo. Wouldn't be surprised if he kicked Silva's ass all over the ring with a broken rib.

I'd love to see Brown for the title, but Johnny would wrestle him to a decision.

That Brown/Silva fight was one of the most entertaining fights I have seen in a long time.

Matt Brown is a Diaz brother without the flakiness. His ground game has improved so much, and that is allowing him to go nuts in the clinch and with his striking. A few years ago he would not have survived that back mount from Silva. He also has a nice triangle that he has at least had locked on in the Swick, Mein, and now Sliva fights.
He also has a little of that edginess that the Diaz's have too. I hope it doesn't get him any trouble. He should get some big, well earned paydays in his next few fights.

In other words he is as exciting as a Diaz brother without being a dick/asshole. I can agree with that, having met Brown in person once (and know a few guys that train with him) he is an extremely nice/genuine guy. The type of guy everyone roots for.Zoltan;1615391 wrote:Matt Brown is a Diaz brother without the flakiness. I think Brown has more power then either of the Diaz brothers but I highly doubt he's anywhere near their ground game.
The Diaz brothers have one of the best guards in MMA they just enjoy standing and banging more.

They are both very good on the ground, but I wouldn't go as far as saying they have one of the best guards in MMA. If you ever watch their grappling matches I think their top game is actually better (at least with Nick, Nate maybe slightly better on the ground).sportchampps;1615423 wrote:I think Brown has more power then either of the Diaz brothers but I highly doubt he's anywhere near their ground game.

I would say they are both in the top 10 easily.

Possibly, I would put them near the bottom of that top 10 or outside of it.sportchampps;1615664 wrote:I would say they are both in the top 10 easily.
Just off the top of my head, Frank Mir, Big Nog, Jacare, Magahlaes, Roger Gracie, Shinya Aoki, Maia, Rousimar Palhares, Werdum, and BJ Penn all better guards. Some of them aren't top tier MMA fighters, but they are good MMA fighters with better guards than the Diaz brothers.
Now, every single one of them except Mir have some top tier BJJ/grappling championships from Abu Dhabi, etc. Mir's best grappling only credential is a NAGA championship but he has pulled armbars, triangles, kimuras, heel hooks and knee bars all out of his guard in the UFC, against top ground guys like Big Nog.
Are the Diaz brothers top 10 guard guys "easily" if we are only talking top tier MMA fighters (guys in the top 10 of their division)? Absolutely, because then guys like Roger Gracie, Shinya Aoki, Magalhaes, Palhares, etc drop out of the discussion, but that would be moving the goal posts.

Yeah really splitting hairs with trying to figure out who has the best guard. Several guys have world class BJJ credentials so they should be on the list. A few other guys who always seem to be threatening or getting subs from their backs in MMA are Pettis, Cerrone, and Jim Miller.

Yeah, those 3 guys are really good, and also don't forget the guys from Alpha Male gym with their guillotines.Zoltan;1616149 wrote:Yeah really splitting hairs with trying to figure out who has the best guard. I don't disagree, but I don't think they have better ground games than the guys I listed above in my first post after the Diaz 'best guard in MMA' was brought up.robj55;1616222 wrote:Nate and Nick both have better ground games than those guys imo

Yeah I mean they may be top 10, but there are some pure bjj guys getting into the sport lately who are highly credentialed and accomplished. I look for that trend to continue.jmog;1616258 wrote:I don't disagree, but I don't think they have better ground games than the guys I listed above in my first post after the Diaz 'best guard in MMA' was brought up.

Was reading a chat with MMA writer Brett Okamoto on ESPN and he said a top 10 fighter once said to him "if you get subbed in the UFC, you suck."
I think most subs come from getting hurt on the feet than having high level BJJ.
