Yeah the belt would change hands, and it would make things way more interesting. Jones will eventually move to HW, he has the frame and is way bigger than the guys he has been facing at LHW.

I'd even be ok with a HW dropping weight to 205. Cain is pudgy, he could cut weight and fight Jones.

Man that's a lot of weight to cut, I know Cormier is about 240 and his kidneys failed back in 08 trying to make it down to 205. Jones will be a HW by sometime in 2013 or early 2014 I would guess. He's already 230, could fill out and end up being 245 or so with that athleticism, who can beat him?

Taking a punch from Rashad and Machida is different than taking a punch from Cain, Carwin, JDS, and Reem.

I'd take Reem, JDS, Cain, and maybe Cormier over him.

But will they be able to land that, being bigger and slower?

i think the only one i wouldn't favor is Carwin. The rest i think tag him. Reem won K1, i think he'd kick the shit outta jones' legs.

I would love to see all of them, Jones is a different breed of athlete and MMA wrestler. Plus he is an extremely intelligent and cerebral fighter, he would fight them where they are weakest. I'm not sure what the odds would be but I could see him winning a lot of those is he were 245ish.

Well, would he be as fast as he is now fighting at 245? I would be curious to see how he fights w/o cutting weight. I do think JDS would KO Jones though. JDS has amazing hands and is fast, not to mention he's huge.

Not saying that wouldn't or couldn't happen, but I don't see Jones staying within punching range if he and JDS were to fight. He would keep the fight on the outside and land leg kicks and ranged attacks, then look to take it to the ground and finish. At least, that's how I see it playing out.

Against say Reem Jones would be the weaker of the two and I'll take Overreem's standup as well as ground game against Bones. So unless he planned to ground and pound him which I find unlikely as Overreem didn't have trouble defending Lesnar's takedowns I don't see how Jones would approach the fight.

Reems ground game is underrated but he has been stopped with gnp before and Jones may have the best gnp in the sport. Jon is probably a better MMA wrestler than Brock is also. People talk about Reem like he is unbeatable, he has lost a lot and has been stopped 8 times. He has gotten better and bigger but the Reems have always been a bit of frontrunners, if you're seen his brother fight you know what I'm talking about. Either way those are huge fights with any of those top HW's and I look forward to seeing them within a year or so.

Jones would still have a 7.5 inch reach advantage on Cain And JDS 4.5 on overeem And carwin. I think they would all be great fights and wouldn't be surprised if he did beat them.

Just look no further then overeem vs Werdum fight to see how unimpressive he can be

That was more Werdum's fault though. But yeah I agree he isn't unbeatable.

Anyone watch Road to the Octagon? I'd like to see Vera put on a good show and beat Rua, LHW needs as many contenders as they can get.

Also - Shogun may have had the easiest road to title shots ever. Beats Coleman and Liddell to fight Machida and if he wins this he'll have beaten Forrest, lost to Hendo, and Vera to fight Jones. Shogun may be a legend from Pride, but the guy has only beaten 1 top ten fighter in the UFC. He's honestly had to easiest road to the belt.

I can't stand Vera and like Shogun but I too wouldn't mind seeing a new top contender at LHW.

The problem is that most people forget Vera and Jones have already fought. Vera left with a broken orbital bone. It was ugly.

Also speaking of easy roads, if Vera wins and becomes the contender. His last few fights were a UD loss to Couture. A UD loss to Thiago Silva (later changed to a NC). A beating by Jon Jones. And a decision win over Eliot Lewis.

In no way shape or form do i think Vera deserves a shot. But Shogun has had the easiest road to the belt that i can remember. He beat 2 old men, lost to Machida, and was lucky to get a re-match and beat him the second time around. He then was mauled by Jones, beat an unmotivated Griffen and then lost to Hendo.

Shogun brings it and I'm a fan, but he's had the easiest road to UFC goal.

I have to take note of the way you describe Shoguns two fights against Machida. Most fans believe he was absolutely robbed (DW as well) against Machida in the first title fight. Shogun beat the snot out of Machida and I am a much bigger machida fan than I am Shogun.

He got an immediate rematch for this reason and beat Machida again.

At the time of the fights Liddell and Forrest were not bums, they were recent LHW fights and big names.

Vera's only win since 2009 is against Eliot Lewis for crying out loud. If he beats Shogun his road to a title shot makes Shoguns look like murderers row.

When he beat forrest, forrest wasn't in title contention. I know you're a shogun fan, but he beat Mark Coleman and a glass jawed Chuck to fight for the title.

While I wouldn't call Forest a bum when he fought Shogun, he was certainly sliding big time. He has even said himself he doesn't have any business fighting top ten guys anymore.

I'm actually more of a Jon Jones, Machida, etc fan. I was actually ecstatic when Forrest choked out Shogun a few years ago. I like Shogun, and while his trip to title shots have been relatively easy compared to most, if Vera wins this Saturday and gets a title shot. Vera's road to a title shot makes Shogun's look like the hardest of all time.
