Back in the day Vera looked like a future champ...but the fact is 205 is completely void of contenders. Unless Jon Jones goes up to heavy weight there's no one for him at 205 to fight. People are calling for Gustafsson, but look at his record and who's he's fought, no way is he ready for a title shot.Fab1b;1237067 wrote:Winner of Vera/Rua gets title shot??? Why

Unless Jones moves up, he's going to be in miss matches against guys not on his level or in re matches no one wants to see.

Although Shogun already took a very serious beating from Jones, I could somewhat see a title shot due to the lack of contenders. Vera - just GTFO with that. Absolute nonsense. He would have been cut if not for Thiago's failed drug test. If Vera knocks Shogun out in .02 seconds he does not deserve a title shot.

Jon Jones has made a once deep division completely void of any real competition. UFC should either have Anderson Silva move up and fight him or have Jon Jones give up the belt and fight in the HW division.
No one at 205 has a shot at being competitive against him, let alone winning. At least with Silva there are guys to challenge him. Does anyone really think Gustafsson, Teixeira, Te Huna, etc., have a shot against him?

Jones only has 3 title defenses.
Comparing that to GSP's 6 and Anderson's 10, it's not like Jones has cleared out the division yet.
Now, I will say this, he definitely looks just as dominant or more than those two, but he definitely has not cleaned out what is typically the most stacked division in MMA.

A great fighter has a way of making a division look bad

If he beats Hendo, he's completely cleared out the division - He's beat, Bader, Vera, Rua, Rampage, Rashad, and Machida and made them all look bad in the process. He's totally cleaned out 205.jmog;1237166 wrote:Jones only has 3 title defenses.

UFC changes tune now Machida/Bader would possibly see title shot

None of those 4 guys deserve a shot. It's definitely bullshit if Rua gets one considering he ducked Glover Teixeira to fight Vera.

Unless Jones moves to HW i'm not interested in what goes on in the LWH division. There's too much to look forward to with other divisions getting on track and a slew of fighters coming back from suspension and injury.

Gustaffson should get the next shot, Machida is the only guy with a chance to beat Jones, he actually won a round against him. That is the only rematch I would want to see against Jones.

A rematch only favors Jones and would probably end the same way. I really hope Hendo wins cause I'm a big fan, but I think he gets TKO'd or subbed in the 3rd cause he'll gas.robj55;1237806 wrote:Gustaffson should get the next shot, Machida is the only guy with a chance to beat Jones, he actually won a round against him. After the Hendo fight, I'm only interested in seeing Jones fight heavy weights. Carwin, Mir, JDS, Reem, Cain would all be monster match ups and money makers.

Realistically, Hendo has little to no shot. He doesn't possess the footwork to catch Jones and his cardio has been awful lately as has his wrestling. Jones will make it look easy.Raw Dawgin' it;1237814 wrote:A rematch only favors Jones and would probably end the same way. I too agree Jones will destroy Hendo. Hendo's right is the only thing that Bones needs to be aware of. I am a big Hendo fan but there is no way he outstrikes or out wrestles Jones.

Rashad landed a clean overhand right on Bone's chin in their match up, but Jones just ate it. So it can happen, but Hendo's odd's are really, really low.

Personally I just want to see great fights and match ups, doesn't really matter to me who gets the next shot.

Rob I do agree I just don't think Rua or Vera or Bader vs Jones is a fight I want to see again. Machida I don't mind he did ok vs Jones early.

Yeah I see what you're saying, Shogun was coming off a year layoff though when they fought, not that that made a huge difference in the fight. Lyoto won the first round and looked great until the elbow split him open and he couldn't see. I'd like to see Machida string together 2 or 3 wins however before fighting for the belt again. Shogun is always exciting and that will sell in a fight vs Bones especially if he knocks the shit out of Vera like most expect him to on national TV on FOX. They seem to be bringing Gustaffson along slowly so he is out of the picture apparently.Fab1b;1238160 wrote:Rob I do agree I just don't think Rua or Vera or Bader vs Jones is a fight I want to see again. I guess if I had to pick I would want someone else a chance to shine and get a big money title fight. Guys like Machida and Shogun are already millionaires, let them build up a few impressive wins first.

Lets assume Jones beats Hendo then moves to HW. Who are you top 4 to fight it out for the belt?robj55;1238180 wrote:I guess if I had to pick I would want someone else a chance to shine and get a big money title fight. Would have to be Machida, Shogun, Hendo and Rashad you would think. Gus,Phil Davis and Bader on the outside looking in. This is assuming that Shogun and Machida win impressively this weekend.Raw Dawgin' it;1238516 wrote:Lets assume Jones beats Hendo then moves to HW. Who are you top 4 to fight it out for the belt?

I'd even throw Teixeira in if he beat Rampage. LHW would be much more interesting w/o Jones lol. Honestly, if Jones moves to HW i see Rashad taking back the belt.robj55;1238530 wrote:Would have to be Machida, Shogun, Hendo and Rashad you would think. I think it would back to hot potatoe with the belt if Jones leaves. I think Rashad can beat Shogun, Machida beats Rashad, Shogun beats Machida, etc.

I would rather that than rematches of one sided fights.Zoltan;1238545 wrote:I think it would back to hot potatoe with the belt if Jones leaves. I think Rashad can beat Shogun, Machida beats Rashad, Shogun beats Machida, etc.
