Our school has played mooney a couple of times. We had a policy that it was one strike and you are out rule. We had a kid, a two way starter, get underage while out of town before the season started. He could have skated by and not been in trouble but he and his parents informed the coach, and the kid was suspended for the season. The kid stuck it out all year and was a part of the team, but never got to play. It seemed harsh but I can tell you, by coaching these kids in other sports, that they were scared to death about getting booted so they kept their nose clean as soon as they signed their forms.



As far as these kids saying they didnt smoke the cigar or drink the alcohol given to them? C'mon man. Reminds me of the BIll Clinton 'but I didnt inhale' line.

For me, any cases of "player misconduct" are held against this one for comparison. I said on the earlier thread...we used to celebrate with Little Kings and Swisher Sweets "back in the day." Hence, I'm less than inclined to get jiggy over celebrating a state title with a cigar and a glass of bubbly.

Dr. Nicholas Wolsonovich, Superintendent of Schools for the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, said there was some second-guessing about the Diocese's decision to aggressively pursue the incident by asking for a police investigation.

"Some felt we're making too much of this incident, asking, 'What's the big deal if a senior had a cigar or a sip of champagne?'" said Dr. Wolsonovich.

Ive seen Reno bench star players for a year or never play guys that got in trouble . He had an IRON fist . He didnt take any anything from anybody and Ill tell you what Id have felt srry for those parents that supplied 25 bottles of booze and cigars to those kids if it wwere Big Red parents. this is why I cannot stand that pariah of a school . I know my team would have beaten the Mooney when I played and Im sad I didnt get to crush one of them guys believe me .. We donyt like that arrogance . Its disgusting and I cant wait till my team plays you again ..

As bad as that is, you tried to make it out like these kids were some kind of rapists or murderers. sounds like the judge is just as guilty as the coach. Look, I really have no problem with these kids celebrating their championship, but if this were a public school, the OHSAA would be all over this, let alone the police.

I call BS on that. You know the way you feel about Mooney and Ursuline? That's how just about everyone in Youngstown that doesn't have ties to Mooney and Ursuline feels about them. People would love to see Mooney or Ursuline get hammered on something like this. But clearly there wasn't enough for the police and prosecutor to press charges.

You do in a way. Nike transports ( attracts ) all these kids to your facility for your "try-out" combine! By the way,for you to suggest the Ohsaa a governing body cannot have jurisdiction over Nike is absurd. Please forward me the written request from Massillon to the Ohsaa to not allow this combine, with the Ohsaa's response that they do not have control on what Nike does with their states scholastic athletes.
