I read that article last week and when I got to that comment I immediately was surprised people weren't calling him out for being a douche.

Glad to see he's being called out now though. He's essentially saying that the people on the WTC and Pentagon planes are pussies and don't love their kids as much as he does, and the people on Flight 93 were bumbling idiots for not landing the plane safely in addition to taking down the terrorists.

I don't know if Wahlberg thinks he's tough because he plays one note tough guys in movies, but he's like 5'6, I don't think he's going to go Rambo on anyone.

I think he's just saying he's a badass, which I don't doubt. I bet he'd kick your ass. Twice.

From Michael Ian Black on twitter:
To the idiots making fun of Mark Wahlberg for saying he could've stopped 9/11, look at his abs then tell me he's wrong.

His song, "Good Vibrations" did not help stop 9/11.

The only person who could make me feel safer on a plane than Marky Mark would be Sean Connery.

He does have a point. Box cutters and pocket knives aren't that intimidating. This is something I don't understand about the 9/11 attacks, did the passengers have no idea that they were being hijacked?

They also wired themselves up to look as if they had bombs on them. The people didn't know whether they were real bombs or not. Also, the pilots said they were headed back to the airport. Since we had never heard of hijackers flying planes into buildings before this in the US, these passengers probably thought that these hijackers just wanted something.

I won't pretend to know what the victims of these terrorists were thinking, we also don't know what really transpired on the planes. Maybe more than Flight 93 had passengers fighting back.

Let me clarify, when I say the pilots said they were headed back to the airport, I mean the hijacker pilots. Obviously the actual pilots had been murdered already.

This article released shortly after the attacks sheds some light on Beamer's conversation:

Obviously 3 guys with knives/boxcutters aren't going to stop a revolt from the passengers, but telling them that they have an explosive device attached to them will if credible.
