It was all over local talk radio yesterday, as well as over on the OBR (Orange and Brown Report).

Saw this on the OBR. I don't listen to Cleveland sports talk anymore but apparently Jason LaConfora was on Bull & Fox this afternoon discussing possible coaching candidates. Below is a summary (cut & pasted from the OBR)...Jay Gruden is a name I've been expecting

1. Joe Banner will most likely step in almost immediately after Haslam takes
over team here shortly.

2. Haslam will try to lure Jon Gruden (Who
Haslam loves) or Cowher but neither will ultimately accept the job.

3.
Doesn't see Dungy or Herm Edwards as interested candidates.

4. See
most likely candidates as Jay Gruden (Bengals Offensive Coordinator) or Todd
Bowles (Eagles Defensive Backs coach).

5. Says if the Browns don't get
the big name they are looking for, they may opt the high quality coordinator
route (ala Rooney method) and Gruden/Bowles would be high up on that list.

Why would they even consider Herm Edwards?

No clue. I wouldn't want Cowher, Jon Gruden, Dungy or Edwards. I think the game has passed them by.

I don't know about that. I would easily take Cowher, Gruden, or Dungy (fuck herm). At the very least one of those fuckers could actually light a spark up the team's ass. This team has simply not had an inspirational coach since their return.

Agree. Its not like we have the option of being picky. If we can get one of those guys it has to be done. With that said, i see us getting none of them and it will more than likely be someone that will piss most people off. The vicious cycle continues.

Neither as a head coach canidate but do not be surprised to hear Jim Chaney or David Cutcliffe's names pop up at some point.

On 97.1 the Fan today, they were talking about Gruden, Saben, and Tress. I wouldn't mind Saben getting a shot. He has Cleveland ties, knows how to run a program, has coached in the NFL as a head and assistant coach, and now his guy T Rich is a Brown. Having Jimmy Haslam bringing in Banner and trying to persuade Saben or Gruden could be good. Get a coach who has some recognition and someone who players would want to come play for. Although I don't know if I could see him passing up running a great program such as Bama, but he may get the itch to try the NFL again and they may give him the $$ to change his mind.

Fuck Saban. He couldn't even stay with the dolphins for over 2 seasons. Tress would be intriguing, but I'm not sure how he could handle the culture of the NFL and I don't think his style translates well in the NFL.

Because he plays to win the game.

Tressel in the NFL as the Browns coach would probably drive me bat shit crazy.

He plays everything too close to the cuff, in the NFL you have to be willing to take your shots and get burnt doing so. I don't think he would have the mentality to do it. I also think he would try to be an offensive coordinator in the system...and we all know what that would mean.

I wouldn't mind Gruden or Cowher. Both have strong Cleveland ties....and both I feel still have a handle on the game. Though I know that both of those are a pipe dream, and I'm watching the smoke off of them roll into the sunset.

I just hope that Haslem has more of a football mind than the Lerner kid did. I honestly feel he will have 110% focus on THIS TEAM...unlike the last ownership, who had their hands in too many things at once. You can only trust your staff so much, before you have to step in and say WOH! I hate Art Modell with every strand of DNA in my body, but at least in the 80's he was here for every game....and he had input and ruled with an iron fist when things went bad. (you do not understand how hard that was to say)

I'm tired of giving 1st time head coaches "their shot", I'm ready to get a veteran head coach in drivers seat, let HIM build his staff around him, teach them what it means to be a winning football team, and then let one of HIS staff take over when they decide to call it quits.

I know this is a never say never kind of thing....but if Urban Meyer came back to Ohio because of his deep rooted Buckeye roots, maybe Cowher (Ex player and coach) or Gruden (ex Ohio Native and admitted Browns fan) would do the same. Then again....I see that smoke in front of me fading away.

Fuck Tressel and his "3 yards and a cloud of punts" mentality. I'd rather see them go with a young, hotshot coordinator like Jay Gruden than Tressel. You think Shurmur was bad with his offense? Tressel would set an NFL offense back light years.

Mike Miller (Offensive Coordinator Arizona Cardinals) would be a great hire for HC by the Browns.

I do, too, but I hope they actually get a hotshot coordinator instead of a "my offense was in the bottom 5 of the league every time I've been an OC" hotshot coordinator.

I really honestly cannot believe we hired Shurmur...

Good old boy network plus Holmgren wanted someone he could control who would run his offense.

It would be even worse if Tressel was hired.

We do have the pieces for Tressel......good running back and a good kicker!

We need a fiery coach that brings an attitude to this team....I'm sick of hearing Derpmur every single week say the team battled, but came up short.

The thing that cracks me up is that the guys on Sirius love Shurmur.

I really do want him to succeed as a head coach, because I think stability is what builds strong franchises...but he has given me absolutely NOTHING to prove to me he is qualified to be a NFL head coach.
