From the season ticket holder conference call. Ok, I want to puke...what a bunch of fluff
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond On conference call with ST holders, # Browns prez Mike Holmgren says everyone on offense is "on notice. We expect the offense to be better."
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond On ST holder conference call, # Browns GM Tom Heckert says the team will look at players released by those teams active in free agency.
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond Heckert: "Free agency isn’t over yet. We hope to add another player down the line."
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond Mike Holmgren, re: the QBs: "Our philosophy is that we’ll be committed to the guy playing for us at any time." # What
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond Tom Heckert: "We will add to our talented group of young offensive linemen."
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond Holmgren, re: Hillis: "There comes a time in some players’ lives and clubs’ lives when a fresh start is the best thing for both sides."
Joel Hammond ‏ @ joelhammond More Holmgren, re: Hillis: "We set goals. There are also economic situations to deal with. If a player and org can’t agree, that happens."
He apparently skirted around the issue of adding a free agent WR.

[h=3]Browns' draft plans adjusted?[/h]11:30AM ET
[h=5]Cleveland Browns[/h]
The Cleveland Browns have an interesting decision to make when it comes to the No. 4 overall pick. They could use that pick to take QB Ryan Tannehill -- the need's there, and some consider him the third-best QB in this year's class -- or a WR -- with Justin Blackmon and Michael Floyd thought to be the top options -- or trade down again, picking up an extra selection from a team that wants one of those players. But there's also been some thought the team could possibly be interested in CB Morris Claiborne at that spot, two years after using their first-round pick on Joe Haden.
After the events of Thursday morning, it's unlikely that this will be the case. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reports that the team has re-signed CB Dimitri Patterson to a three-year, $16 million contract. Patterson will re-join Haden and Sheldon Brown in Cleveland's secondary.
While we can't entirely rule Claiborne out for Cleveland, it appears highly unlikely that they'd add him to the mix.

I stand corrected...
@ WillBurge: # Browns President Mike Holmgren said on RG3 trade "what we offered for the pick was every bit the offer that was chosen"
Will Burge ‏ @ WillBurge # Browns Holmgren said "I think there are reasons why it didnt happen. There is a very close relationship between (STL & WASH front office)"
Will Burge ‏ @ WillBurge # Browns prez Holmgren said "Im not sure if any offer we made was going to be quite good enough"

I still wish the Browns would move on from Sheldon Brown for a less expensive option. However, that would just create one more need to fill. At this point, it looks as if the sole focus of the draft will be offense.like_that;1117364 wrote:Browns' draft plans adjusted?

Browns president Mike Holmgren insists his offer to the Rams for the No. 2 overall pick was "every bit the offer that was chosen."
Citing the tight-knit relationship between Rams coach Jeff Fisher and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, Holmgren explained, "Not sure any offer we made was going to be quite good enough. ... rest assured we were aggressively involved in that." Holmgren sounded more committed to Colt McCoy on Thursday, and acknowledged he will "discourage" GM Tom Heckert from trading down from No. 4 overall.

Then take blackmon or make someone give up way too much to move up.

I agree, although I really wish they would move down a couple spots and grab a few more early round picks.

Browns sign Juqua Parker. Nice under-the-radar signing to go along with Frostee Rucker. He had 8 sacks in 2009 before Philly added more ends

Holmgren indicated more than once on the conference call that the team’s Plan B at quarterback is to re-commit to Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace and surround them with better offensive players.
“The draft picks we were going to use to move up there, now we have again,” he said. “So the other plan we talked about was to use those draft picks to get starters for this year and to help our quarterbacks on our team better.
“So that’s what we’re doing. Time will only tell. You don’t know what kind of draft you have for 3-4 years. Rest assured we aggressively were involved in that. It didn’t happen. We didn’t pull up our tent. Now we’re doing what we have to do in that we didn’t get that done.”
Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert both indicated the Browns, at this stage of the process, intend to use their first-round picks at No. 4 and No. 22. But Holmgren would not discount the possibility of trading down, up, or anthing else.

Greg Cosell ‏ @gregcosell I did not pick RGIII as #1 player. My #1 player is T. Richardson. Best back since Peterson. Won't go #1 obviously but should not be devalued

I would personally LOVE to get Richardson. Dude is a horse, and definitely the style of back that our offense uses well.Commander of Awesome;1117424 wrote:Greg Cosell ‏ @gregcosell I did not pick RGIII as #1 player. My #1 player is T. Peter King tweeted this today.Miami may not get OC Mike Sherman's college QB, Tannehill, staying at 8. How incredible that you might have to trade into top 4 to get him.
It is looking increasingly likely that if the Browns want Tannehill, they will have to do it at 4 because Jacksonville is talking about selling their pick at 7 to any team that wants him if he is on the board.
With all the QB's in free agency off the board it is looking more and more like another year with Wallace/McCoy, and maybe a 37 year old Hassleback.
None of those 3 offer any long term potential at the position, which is unnacceptable heading into year 3 of the rebuild.
Are we really going to be waiting until year 4 of the rebuild to find a way to get someone in there that offers us more than a 1-2 year stop gap at the position?
