Supposedly both parties (WASH/CLE) were pissed how STL dealt with them. Cleveland may not be interested in dealing with STL, period, unless the deal is super sweet.
I think the Browns almost have to make that deal, unless someone offers up something better, which I can't imagine. Who cares if the Rams played us, that would give the Browns 5 picks in the top 39. This team needs players. What better way to "build through the draft" than to have 5 picks before pick #40?

Blackmon and Claiborne will not be there at #6

Browns sign DE Frostee Rucker (5
years, $20-plus million): MILLEN ON ACID Grade

It's a good thing the Browns cut Eric Steinbach today. They
needed the cap space to sign Frostee Rucker to a big deal. You know, because
Rucker is so awesome.

Rucker is a good run-defender, but he offers
nothing in terms of getting to the quarterback. Cleveland needed a guy who could
do the latter, so I'm not sure why the front office would throw more than $20
million at a rotational lineman.
The grade and thoughts on the Rucker signing from walterfootball.com.

Well, apparently it sounds like the Browns "care who played us." They thought they had a deal in place for the #2 pick and STL shopped the offer back to WASH.

Anyone feel like Holmgren is pulling a USC bias thing (ala Butch Davis and Miami) With the Rucker deal? Also with Matt Barkley looming in 2013, could he be a reason we are so stagnent at QB so far?

Interesting conspiracy theory, but I don't buy it.

Also sounds like the Browns are looking to extend Alex Mack with some of this money....another 3 years.

Browns are not good enough to "suck for Barkley" they would win just enough in spite of trying to lose.

If what BR says is true about the RGIII trade then that would be debunked, just food for thought.

If we are going to hold grudges rather than try to improve our roster, chalk up another reason why this is a failing organization.

That leaves Richardson.

Didn't the Rams get 3 1st and 1 2nd from Washington? The Browns offered 3 1st. Wouldn't the Rams been better off trading to #4 in the first place rather than trading 2 2nds to move up from #6?

I'm skeptical that the reports of the Browns offering three 1st's is correct. Even with the Skins three 1st's and a 2nd, I still think the Browns offer would've been better (two 1st's this year) even though the Skins threw in a 2nd.

Tom Withers ‏ @ twithersAP Gotta believe # Browns thinking RB, WR with top picks next month. Maybe they can come out with Blackmon/Richardson, Richardson /Floyd combo.

Apparently H&H are having a conference call with "select fans" today at 2pm to discuss what's going on in free agency. If I get any recaps I'll post but I'm assuming they will be screening calls, etc and giving the usual canned/bullshit answers that most front offices give.

Bucs sign CB Eric Wright (5 years, $37.5M): MILLEN ON
LSD-LACED KIELBASA Grade

"This is the worst signing in NFL
history. That sentence is not an exaggeration.

Eric Wright is terrible.
I gave him 1.5 stars in my for a reason. He's been torched numerous times per week over the
past few seasons. Detroit and Cleveland fans know how bad Wright is, and the
Buccaneers are about to find out.

Seriously, what the hell was Mark
Dominik thinking? He couldn't have been sober when he made this transaction. I
refuse to believe it. A plausible explanation is that Matt Millen snuck into his
office, strangled him, shoved some LSD-laced kielbasa into the general manager's
back side, and then slipped Wright's agent's number into his hand. When Dominik
awoke, he was still delirious, so thought that paying $37.5 million to one of
the worst cornerbacks on the market was a great idea.

Yes, that's
exactly what happened. You heard it here first.
"

This made me chuckle

I agree with BR, if we're gonna trade with StL, we gotta make them feel it a little bit. They trade-raped Washington in that deal, so simply giving up a couple 2nd's doesn't hurt them a whole lot. Make 'em hurt!

I like the idea of having 5 of the top 39 picks. We have holes everywhere.

Grubbs signs with New Orleans. I see either an Anthony Collins or a King Dunlap signing in our future. :D

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter Saints land replacement for Carl Nicks, sign Ben Grubbs to a five-year, $36 million deal, including $10 million signing bonus.

There goes that pipe dream.

Browns are just not going to get the good FAs until they start winning plain and simple.

I wonder if Santana Moss gets cuts from Washington. I'd be interested in him as a stop gap.

I don't think there will be an issue with guys like that. They will just be happy to be starters and to get paid. Heckert will scour rosters for "Usama Young types' who he feels are being held down yet are ready to take that next step to starter status. That's why I think Nakamura (S-Ravens) will be a target.
