Hornets Shopping Tenth Pick
June 6th, 2012 by Colin McGowan

From Shaun Powell:

Hornets will entertain offers for 10th pick if someone also agrees to take Ariza or Okafor contracts.

I mention this only because the Cavs have a bunch of cap space and could conceivably absorb one or both of those contracts. Okafor will make $28 mil over the next two seasons, and Ariza (who has a player option for the 2013-14 season) is owed $7.2 mil next season and $7.7 mil in 2013-14. I haven’t heard anything as far as the Cavs being in talks with the Hornets, but I thought I’d make you guys aware.

Something to keep in mind: I’m not sure exactly what the cap is going to do this offseason, but the Cavs will likely need to have about $50 mil committed to player salaries to hit the mandatory salary floor (else they’ll have to distribute the extra money evenly amongst their roster), and as it stands (per this article, which I think is accurate) they have $31.5 mil tied up at this very moment, without having signed any rookies, picked up or terminated Daniel Gibson’s team option, or dealt with the proposition of re-signing Alonzo Gee.

It's worth a shot. If the Cavs had to take back on one or both of those contracts they might be able to keep the 24th pick

I wouldn't mind taking on Ariza at all. I'd still draft a 2 and a 3, but now you don't have 2 rookies thrown into immediate big minutes on the wing.

Cavs definitely would have the potential to have some great scoring options with those picks.

Looks like the Cavs made a hard push for the 1st pick
From Chad Ford:

• Is Anthony Davis a lock for the No. 1 pick? Yes, and it's not even close. Forget about the fact that the Hornets are saying publicly that they are still considering their options. He's the guy.

You can also forget about them trading the No. 1 pick. Sources say the Cavs offered them No. 4, No. 24, No. 33 and No. 34 for No. 1. And sources said the Cavs got a firm and quick "No!"
I would only do that deal with Portland if both Beal and MKG are off the board. MKG is likely gone, but if we can grab Beal at #4 it's worth it. The guy is a gamer.

When asked about potential swap of picks b/w Portland & Cleveland same source said extremely unlikely bc Cavs would face less certainty at 6

Chad Ford's mock (grain of salt) has the Cavs taking Beal with #4 and Fab Melo with #24.

Sure it's been mentioned but I've heard that he'd be projected quite a bit higher if not for the anxiety issue. I'd have no issue with him at that 2nd pick. Think he'd be a potential steal.

Ha I gathered that, I guess I'm looking for more reasoning as to why. I didn't see him play, and I don't know anything about his game.

I actually think Royce White has a chance to be a major disappointment. I know he's undervalued, especially if he goes in the 2nd round, but there are a lot of red flags. Literally, the guy can't fly on a plane or spend a long period of time isolated. He certainly may get past these issues, but in-terms of immediate impact? We'll see.

You just have to hope that he is able to put his anxiety issues behind him

His game makes him a very interesting prospect. He's 6'9 270 but he can handle, pass and move like a guard. He's also very strong with his back to the basket. He would probably be considerred a 4 in the NBA but he can play the 3 as well.

I think I saw on twitter today that Beal and Barnes are rumored to be coming to Cleveland to work out against each other (much like TT and Kanter last year). I wouldn't mind that assuming MKG is gone. Seen Barnes put up pretty good numbers at the Combine (Beal as well), so if he proves to be better than Beal, I will be OK with it.

I'm not a huge Royce White fan. The red flags far outweigh the benefits in my opinion. He's a great passer for a 4, but he doesn't do anything else exceptionally well.

I worry about his anxiety, but if he's there at #24 I would love to see the Cavs grab him
We usually dont see many guys that are 6'8 270 with his skills. He has the ability to play a couple positiions in the NBA and could cause some matchup probelms when on the court. His perimeter game needs some work but his post up game is very solid.

Also not necessarily Cavs related again, but Sullinger's dad says Jared is a lock to Golden State if he falls that far. Not sure how that effects NO at 10
