In all seriousness.... Ritchie isn't proving anything by adding Waynedale to his resume. It's great for the district to save some cash, but honestly... this school district runs its self with the staff and administration that is in place. I heard someone say that all a super really is "is a P.R. person for the district" to some degree this is true. I believe that to be more truth than not for Waynedale. Ritchie was clearly needed to turn around Rittman in its current shape before he got there. Orrville was also wise in hiring Ritchie to direct its future. Ritchie is a smart guy who works hard and is as honest as it comes. I relate him quite a bit to Doug Haas.... He's a PROGRAM BUILDER! (Serious though... Ritchie is good... Haas... eh.... we'll see....) Obviously there is work that needs to be done behind the scenes but the Waynedale district would be capable of achieving that work if it just had principals in place. They are truly efficient good people.

I see Dalton as another district where this shared super idea would be capable. I don't know Smithville's situation as a district, but I would assume they also would benefit from this idea if they got some new leadership than the current. (They clearly can't handle the P.R. aspect of the business right now though... ask Coach Schrock.) They are typically an efficient district. I'm just worried that this new will take off and some individuals will be placed in the leadership position that can not handle the business and pressure as well as Mr. Ritchie. So be careful what you wish for....

A Superintendent almost needs to be a lawyer to understand the laws the state passes and to also be able to run a district within the parameters of multiple union contracts. The web of what we call school funding is also complicated beyond belief. However since the law is the law one super can apply it to multiple districts at once, it would require a very well organized and dedicated individual.



In regard to "other shared services", I would recommend to BRF and Demorilizer to try commando!

Doesn't smithville have an interim superintendent right now? Agree that Dalton could benefit from a shared super. But the bulldogs and smithies sharing anything seems hard to fathom haha

The interim label was removed earlier this year.

Agree with your assessment of the position. My thought comes from the fact that many of these supers came from the principal position. Not all but a large portion. With the continued education requirement from the state, many of our current principals are taught some of these aspects as part of their masters requirement. Additionally they are constant communication with superintendents and curriculum advisors that I feel many of these principals are very understanding of the situations, funding, and laws that they would be more than capable to run a district as a group.

I can see some time issues and maybe a lack of a "central" leader to make decisions being flaws, but this could be alleviated much like a current school board is set up. A principal could be selected by the group as the head of the group and act as its spokesman/representative and have the final say. You could scrap this entire situation though if the school was too large or was in poor shape with poor staff/leadership.

Word on the street is that Mr Schar will be having a meeting around lunch time tomorrow with Norwayne's administration. After the meeting there is a dedication at the school honoring him for the wad of cash he dumped into the new high school. He will attend a portion of the Dwight Schar invite then head out. My understanding is that they will know after the lunch meeting what Mr. Schar is willing to do with the turf project. It sounds like tomorrows the day.


Word on the street is correct. Coach Vrabel was at NHS this week. It seems that winning State Championships is good for potentially playing at the next level..............imagine that. I've also heard that the Zimmerly boy has been making his rounds and Berger has been very busy also. Both have visited various D1 and D2 schools. I saw the Berger kid the other day when I was going to a track meet. He was coming out of the weight room. He looks like he's been living in there. He must be 20 lbs heavier. He also seems alot taller than I remember. Boy is becoming a man. John Zimmerly is not tall but he is stacked too. It appears that at leasty some of the Bobcats are taking this football thing seriously

Vrabel was at Orrville that same day and probably a dozen or more other schools in the NE Ohio area this week. He's the new NE Ohio recruiting coordinator so he's out glad-handing with coaches and building relationships.

Had a twitter discussion with a local guy saying it probably amounted to nothing more than a handshake and an invitation to a summer camp.

Juniors-to-be are merely a blip on the radar...the junior year is crucial though and really defines how the recruiting process will be from there on out. Exciting for the kids, but more to build relationships with the coaches than anything else.....but yes, I'm sure winning a state title made Norwayne more of a destination than in previous years.

Vrabel's business card was pretty cool too.

Interesting to hear about Schar and the possibility of turf......we better get our act together at Orrville.

Its pretty cool that Wayne County is on these college's radar..whether it be Orrville, Norwayne, Smithville, etc...maybe they are starting to realize that there are some good football programs in this county with good talent..its about time!

No disrespect, but color me skeptical. It's rare D1 recruiters are looking to small schools for talent. D3, yes, but the big schools?? I had a recruiter tell me once "I can only go to so many games on Friday nights. When the larger schools or traditional powers play one another, I'm looking at a number of kids on both teams. With a single stand out at a small school, it's mostly a waste of a night for me." That makes complete sense. Larry Kolic was probably the one and only WCAL player to make an impact at the D1 level, and that was 30 years ago. Until I see it, I'm not sipping the kool aid. Really, Wallace was the best player in Norwayne history. No comparisons. And he's an Ashland Arrow. It's a great accomplishment. But let's not get crazy full of ourselves.

*I was looking at the WCAL all sports standings and the thing that jumped out at me was Rittman has only 12 pts. Northwestern has a tenuous hold on the lead with 45 pts. Everyone else has at least 35 pts. I had no idea how bad things have gotten for the tribe.


*Waynedale is the latest partner in the superintendent sharing program with Orrville & Rittman. In a show of support and unity, Beast, BRF & Demoralizer have all agreed to share the same pair of underwear.....I have every confidence Beast will leave his mark with the classic brown and yellow Waynedale colors.


*Seriously though, kudos to all 3 schools. This is just one of the first visible proactive measures to combat the upcoming budget/funding crisis that will be felt by everyone. All districts that aren't actively exploring cost saving options will soon find themselves in state receivership or worse. Sharing administrative costs is just the tip of the iceberg.

It goes a bit deeper than no wrestling program

Through the fall & winter seasons, Rittman fielded teams in 7 of the 8 sports....they finished last or second to last in everything but boys soccer (a 4th place effort out of 6 teams).

Dalton actually fielded less teams (6) yet still amassed 35 pts.

Hopefully things get turned around in Rittman.
