In the case of the revolving week one. Mapleton changed their minds again now Hillsdale has signed two year with Manchester.

I am expecting a little bit of a down year for the Falcons. However, now I am not sure. In two years Hillsdale has only lost to two state champions and a state semifinalist. All in very close games.

I was speaking more to the level of homerism there, not the level of competition.

2012-

WCAL football- Northwestern rolls to County title on the way to winning the state championship and the USA today national championship.

College football- Buckeyes win National championship in Urban Meyers 1st year

Pro football- Browns win Super Bowl after Kosar comes out of retirement to lead them there

and of course the tribe goes 162-0 on the way to winning the series

Take it all to the bank and write checks on it.

Waynedales players need to stop worrying about staying close to wrestling weight and freakin eat something...can't win with a bunch of 145's to 165's:p

As I stated on another thread...If Norwaynes staff stays put, and doesn't leave for bigger and better things, the rest of the WCAL will need to upgrade and move into the 21st century to compete. Having #45 was important, but I was just amazed all playoffs long at how much more advanced Norwaynes offense and defense was compared to what I am used to seeing from the Bears, Smithies, and Bulldogs. (the traditional WCAL powers). If these schools do not advance their games to keep up there really could be a long term changing of the guard in the league.

A peak into next year and beyond from this point of view for Norwayne...at least 4 key players including #5 Caleb Harris are sophomores this year. Also when the current sophomore class are seniors, the incoming freshmen class will be the boys who won the 7th grade league championships this year. I know it is many years apart and a lot can happen but, my son plays for the youth football "freshman team" and they ended their season 7-1 including teams like Kent, Norton, Medina, Wadsworth etc. While JV went to the championships and only lost in OT. The NYF program is big and going strong.

I think the league will be wide open next year....

A lot of great seniors graduate and will leave Huge holes to fill for all the county teams. It will be interesting to see which team(s) rise to the top.

My predictions will come at the beginning of summer....have to do my research ;)

Smithville beat Norwayne, so they were obviously the best team in the WCAL this season.

OK... just yoking!

In all seriousness, I have no clue. Norwayne returns some great players. Hillsdale and Smithville seem like they're going to be in the title hunt every year, now. All I know is it WON'T be Dalton, Chippewa, or Rittman.

Obviously the biggest shoes for Norwayne to fill will be Wallace. They will have to take a differnet approach next year but they are returning a ton of high quality players.

Offense - Line - returning - Croftcheck, Weinman, Scruggs, Barb
WR - Berger, Knieriem, Smith, Harris
RB - Jon Zimmerly

Defense - Ends - Jon Zimmerly, Barb
line - Scruggs
DB - Harris, Beery,
start sometimes, play alot - Berger, Studer, Knieriem

They will be very good again

the bulldogs lose very little (although a couple good ones in keyes and miller). They will definitely be better in 2012, but not back in contention for a league title IMO - I expect them more around .500 next year and back in the title hunt the following season. Too early to think about the league overall, though.

That's not how it works, though. Honestly, if your team has the personnel to run the spread, the coaches had better run the spread. However, if Smithville had tried to run the spread this year, they would have been CONSIDERABLY worse than 8-2, and they would NOT have beaten Norwayne.

Your offense HAS to be tailored to your personnel. The Wing-T works for some teams. Others don't have the right guys to run it, and so they shouldn't.

Enough outta you! :D

In all seriousness, though, Smithville would NOT have beaten Norwayne running the spread. Heck, they probably wouldn't have beaten many teams at all running it. They didn't have the personnel to run it, so they wouldn't have done well. It will be interesting to see what they do next year, with both 1,000-yard rushers gone, as well as a daunting offensive line (including two D1 recruits).

I have my doubts about Smithville next year. They lose a LOT of talent, but if the kids follow Schrock's instruction throughout the off-season, you can never count them out.

my suspicion is you will see the league move more to the middle next yr - the best ones not as good, the worst ones not as bad. Might make for a less lopsided league than we had this season, more parity, more unexpected outcomes. (but prob no state titles, haha)
I guess I will take a stab at next yr, although it will probably change so don't hold me to this next fall
.
1)norwayne - enough there to still win the league, but prob not state champ good
2)northwestern - nolletti and co make a move
3)smithville - shrock keeps them competitive even with the losses
4)hillsdale - more losses, but still decent
5)dalton - still will be young, but the 9th and 10th graders become 10th and 11th. We will see how much the fire hardened the youngsters. You still have moyer
6)Waynedale - not sure who is returning from an average bears team.
7)Chippewa - this is the yr they crawl out of the basement
8)Rittman - takes another small step back

had 1 kid that did some kind of weight management, i dont know why. The other 4 wrestlers that play football. 1- is a heavyweight at 285, 1- is a 220lb 1st year wrestler, 1- is a 182lb RB that hasnt wrestled in 5 years and 1- is wrestling 15 lbs and 2 weight classes higher than last year. Mr Earth...you statement holds no water! :D

I agree to an extent....but alot hinges on personal. EVEN more hinges on COACHING!

I hate seeing the Bears close to the cellar. Hope they right the ship...but I think Norwayne/NWN/Hillsdale are your frontrunners....whodathunkit?

its awesome that the day that the 2011 season ends us wcal are all ready for the 2012 season to start! gotta love wcal football!

on to the 2012 season now, league looks like it will be alot more competitive from top to bottom and not just one or 2 powerhouse teams. wow i dont even know where to start. Norwayne still will have a decent chunk coming back but i dont think they will run away with the league title so easily. Northwestern looks tough and hillsdale always reloads. Waynedale may be in for another mediocre season from what i saw this year. Daltons youth may start to emerge. Rittman will improve believe it or not but how much can they improve with dennis? and the chipps.. well they are the chipps and looks like another very long season in doylestown
