I knew "Smitty". He ran the local bodyshop for 50+ years. The man was magic with the metal. Lots of people from other BFEs liked to say they knew him but didn't. In fact, sometimes they were so consumed by jealousy, they would correct others on the spelling of his name.BRF;1094095 wrote:Hmmmmm......what an interesting comment. Did you know Smitty?

Hmmmm............
On the Smithville situation-
1. BOE forces Schrock out
2. Besancons brother is on BOE
This is very suspicious, you must admit.
The 1st post on this subject by Schrocks daughter was also very telling.
We'll probably never know the real story and until we do. This will always be more of a coup d'etat than a simple passing of the baton.
Not to mention, it's February. What else are we going to talk about and over-analyze.

If its true BB is hired then us Smithie fans should rest assured the BOE didn't royally screw this up. BB is an amazing coach, look what he did in his time at New London and Rittman.

Devils advocate question....
If BRENT was such an amazing coach at New London and Rittman why didn't he put down roots at either place?
Haas has been criticised for job hopping, but that subject never seems to be mentioned about BRENT.

The Smithville Case........
A few questions.......
1. If BBs bro, FB is on the BOE and they are all BFFs, why wasn't Schrock warned about the upcoming surprise review and forced dismissal?
......I just can't believe that a BOE member would not know about a situation such as this.
2. Why didn't the BOE rush to Schrocks side and take action against those who orchestrated this rogue manuever?....if they weren't involved.
.......they could have told Schrock they were in his corner and issued a proclamation saying as much.
3. Why pressure someone to sign a gag order?
........rather strange move. I would guess the BOE would have to be involved in the drafting or authorization of such a document. Why roll out something like that if nobody has a pre planned agenda or nothing shady is going on.
I could go on and on with the questions but they all appear to lead back to the same place.....The BOE.
The list of candidates was a joke.........except for BB.
This whole charade has all the earmarks of a planned dismissal and planned replacement.
All the actors in this poorly handled tragedy need to come clean so the healing can begin.

I understand that and can see that. I am pretty close to the situation and know some information, I just chose to not give out that information. I understand since Bent's brother is on the BOE how that looks as well. I will say, Brent thinks the world of Coach Schrock he played and coached under him, he would not screw Coach Schrock in anyway. There was some misinformation out there and you know how people love to assume things.RedRider1;1094120 wrote:I agree with this, but to some it will be easy to connect the dots and assume.

I surely hope each member of this board is voted out when the time comes. The way the coaching was handled was poor on their part and more importantly, they screwed everyone the way the handled the new school plans. It is funny to go to basketball games and see "the clan" sitting amongst themselves. If anyone thinks this BOE, super and principal were not involved in the way both of these issues went down need to wake up. I am amazed how quickly a great district has now become the butt of all in the area due to its lack of responsible leadership.

Before we go off the deep end, remember this is the man that coach Schrock wanted as his replacement. Brent was a long time assistant at Smithville
and for the most part, the majority of community is happy with this choice. Brent left Smithville to get Head Coaching experience. I like the choice.
I still have nothing good to say about the BOE. This choice will at least give the program some continuity. I remember years ago when the Board fired Atchison and hired Schrock (who, was an assistant coach under Atchison) They remained friends! I hate the way Schrock was forced out, but I do not believe for a second that Brent had anything to do with it. The next order of business is to get the football stadium re-named!!! Keith Schrock Stadium, has a nice ring to it! The Smithie community and the boosters need to press HARD at getting this done!!

Tim Durham, the co owner of Fair Financial and his lawyers were making statements like- "Don't make assumptions based on how the known facts look. I'm innocent, I just can't tell you anything"Coach_08;1094438 wrote:I am pretty close to the situation and know some information, I just chose to not give out that information. Ask the several thousand locals around Wooster who lost money how that worked out.
Now I'm not comparing Tim Durham to the Smithville BOE, BB or anyone else. I'm comparing both situations lack of transparency and what happens when opaque operating procedures are allowed to run unchecked.
Green Local schools are public. They operate on public money. The public should know just how this went down. Transparency is trust. Trust without transparency will lead to corruption and abuse of power 99% of the time.
RR1 & coach08, I have no beef with either of you. I just don't agree that assumptions shouldn't be made when official sources are using gag orders and operating under an informational blackout. Assumption leads to rebuttal, which keeps the topic alive and may wind up with the truth coming out.
Now I know that "to assume makes an ___ out of you and me" & assumption is the mother of all __________ups" but in this case it's necessary. If no information is given, no other alternatives exist.
If shenanigans like this don't get addressed, it will get worse.
Anybody get my point here? Any opinions?

^^ I understand what you are saying and I agree with what you are saying for the most part. I just do not want to say some things I know right now, maybe down the road. I will just say I do think the BOE screwed this up big time, but people want to link Brent with this just because his brother is on the BOE, not fair. Also, FYI, Brent has not be offered the job he goes for a 2nd interview next week

Coach 08-
Fair enough.
You're absolutely right that it's not fair Besancon is getting grilled due to his brothers BOE status. Sadly, it's a natural by product of what happens when elected groups chose to operate in stealth mode. None of this drama needed to happen, the BOE by virtue of their silence, are actually perpetuating it. They could end all the rumors and speculation by shedding some light on the murky events that occured last December.
I think the BOE owes at least that to Keith Schrock, a 35 year employee and community member.
The longer it goes, the worse it gets and the more distracting it becomes.
The person or persons who are behind all the secrecy need to come forward and tell their side of the story. Then the people of Smithville can decide come election time.

This process was a total set up. It continues to show how messed up the Green local administration and board really is! Do I think they picked the right guy out of the list that was published? (yes). They just wasted a lot of people’s time when they knew all along BB was the guy! I wish him well.

This is a fantastic question. Schrock was told by Besancon he would not be coaching next year if he was going to be the head coach. (doesn't seem very respectful to me, let the man make his own decision on retirement, don't pressure him)bucksmith;1094842 wrote:Why then would Brent not want to come back and be an assistant for Coach Schrock for another year?
Things I find interesting: Some of Coach Besancon's friends were telling people they will be coaching next year. Coach Beasancon went to the Ohio Coaches Clinic and was paid for by whom? (reminder he quit at the end of the season as an assistant) The Bauman family from Rittman is moving to Smithville already. There is no doubt this was a done deal and it is a shame to put others through the interview process.
I also find it very interesting that last summer when the board voted to have Besancon as the new assistant he didn't get all votes. The count was 4-1. Therefore, was there a smart board member that new what was in the making and she didn't agree with it?
Did the Smithville School district seriously hire a PR person to fire Coach Schrock? Is this where our tax money is going to pay for a person to get rid of a fantastic coach?
On a final note... Everybody has what they want. Coach Schrock is gone and Brent Besancon is the new head coach! The program can now head in its new direction under a fantastic unselfish new coach!! Be respectful to a 35 year employee and to this tax paying community and give the truth. Until than it is very difficult to just forget about this whole situation.

Schrock is nearly 70 years old! There has to be a point where its time to hang up the whistle and this year was the year to do it... playoffs, 250 wins, and a WCAL championship. you cant really go out on a better season. But why would schrock even want to come back and take the risk of maybe only going 4-6 or 5-5? Its to bad the way things ended but regardless how many people in smithville actually wanted to see him return for another year?exsmithie;1095288 wrote:This is a fantastic question. And i agree 100 percent with how the school board is selecting a new coach. This was besancon's team since the day schrock resigned so why go through this whole process of interviewing any other coaches because if smithville did select a coach besides brent then the whole town would be in outrage. Also, where did you hear information about the bauman family moving to smithville??
