1. Tailgating with all you knuckleheads was awesome! PIT knows how to grill a mean brat and burger! If he ever tailgates again, I recommend being there!
2. It was pretty cool of Aaron Dorksen and Mike Plant to come visit the tailgate as well and get thoughts from some of the people there (some of which were featured in the DR today).
3. I was incredibly impressed by the generosity and good-natured attitude from the Kenton tailgaters! Classy people, and I would gladly share that experience again with them.
4. GoFalcons is the man for being able to ring that bell all game! It was awesome. We were all yelling "THIRD DOWN" so people knew to plug their ears if they were sitting nearby.
On to the game:
5. Gotta say, it really wasn't talked about as much, but Norwayne has shown a REALLY good pass defense all throughout the playoffs! Their DBs really haven't been accented in the back-and-forth on here, but I think they deserve a lot of credit. There were times when it took the D-line 4-5 seconds to get to Mauk, but when they got there, he still had the ball, because his targets were all covered. That doesn't include the 3 picks by Beery, who had one heck of a game on defense last night!
I honestly think the defensive backs are the unsung hero of the game last night. Yes, Kenton still put up 42. That's because they're a ridiculous offense, but they could have hung about 70 or more on most teams Norwayne has seen this year.
Big kudos to them!
6. Wallace is Superman. His secret identity is blown.
7. I noticed that the running attack from Norwayne's two-headed Zim-monster wasn't really showcased much last night, even though they did well when they did run. Any idea why? Still, the coaches went with something that ended up working in the end (barely, though).
8. Who was the little stand-up nose on defense? The Kenton O-line was having a BEAR of a time with him.
9. Maty Mauk has a cannon. I'd heard about it, and I believed it, but it was a whole new thing to see it at the end of the first half. Maty can throw bombs.
10. I do think not having a RB in the backfield hurt Kenton in this game. If nothing else, having another option to pay attention to would have at least probably kept the defensive line more honest.
11. What I loved watching was that these two teams really knew what style of football fit them the best, and the coaches coached appropriately to that. Mike Mauk is a heck of a coach, and with as critical as I have been of Harbour, he has definitely let the kids do what they're best tailored to do.
12. Wallace has really learned how to check down much better in these final games. It was good to see.
13. This team has WORLDS more discipline than the Norwayne teams playing Smithville and Hillsdale, and that was probably the most impressive thing to me. Good teams can win with talent. Great teams will win with discipline. This team had both in Week 15.
Congratulations, 'Cats! I told you that victory was waiting for you, and you went out there and got it!
norwayne had 3 stand up nose guards...Austin Wilson #30 ....Cody Scruggs #70.....and Brock Maxwell #3.....Kenton got hit with a 3 headed monster it that position......#30 Quick....#70 Power....#3 Quick and Power.....
I thought they would make adjustments at half but all game the couldnt figure out how to block Norwayne's front line and then when #42 came off the ends it made it worse for them....
Congrats Cats!!!!!
