I find it interesting to that they think the new league will follow their teams more than the MAL but they may. Well to answer your question as to who the MAL can bring in, there are a lot of rumors out there about several different team joining. There main schools i keep hearing are Elmwood and Woodmore but who knows. I know the MAL AD's are each compiling about 3 schools they want to invite and this thursday there is a league meeting where each will have there list and they will all decide on who to invite. It should be interesting to see what happens. I think the MAL wants nothing to do with LCC haha. Maybe the BVC for LCC. Yeah I think the fit for all the schools seemed to be good even among the non football schools. How often does Carey play Wynford in football? I know Mohawk has played them recently.0311sdp;997458 wrote:I don't think that the Northern 10 will follow their teams any better than the MAL does, and Carey can look at themselves, yes we travel great for football but all other sports not so good unless the teams are really good. We already over the past few years have been playing Riverdale, Buckeye Central, Colonel Crawford in basketball and I don't recall seeing big crowds, now Wynford is a different story, they show up big but they always have good basketball teams as well as football. In football there will be 3 really bad teams in this new league and other than Wynford none of them are very good. Buckeye Central is playing Marion Local for the state championship but that is only because somehow they got sent to the southeast region this year which is always terrible. If they would have played in the Northwest region (where they belong) they would have lost in the first round. I would hate to see the MAL have to disband but who can they bring in? Maybe Elmwood takes another look, Sandusky St. Mary, Norwalk St. Paul, Gibsonburg, I don't know there aren't a lot of D-6 or D-5 schools out there. to pick from. What's left in the NCC are too big of schools to combine with the MAL. I saw that the Northwest Conference voted Lima Central Catholic out of there league but they're pretty far away.
It's kind of dissapointing because I thought Carey and the MAL were a pretty good fit. Travel wasn't too bad, competition was pretty good (if you won 8 games you made the playoffs) sometimes even with 7 wins. I thought the rivalries with Calvert and St. Joe were pretty good and even with Hopewell in the last 5 or 6 years (now that they have good teams) Bringing in Lakota did not do much for the MAL (may have been a bad move) I thought at the time Elmwood would be better if you only wanted to add 1 team. At least you have 3 years to figure it out.
