Maybe Luck should just pull and Eli and say he will refuse to play for the Colts if they draft him:laugh:

I think the Colts are in a tough spot here, if Manning can play another 3 years, they can use the pick to build the team back up, I think by drafting and keeping Luck they are setting themselves up to be a middle of the road team, who will be in the rebuilding process when Luck is set to take over. So they take Luck and he sits for three years, then how many years after he takes over does it take them to build a quality team around him?

Except its not that simple. The Colts have made a lot of statements about making Manning a Colt for life, the highest played player in the NFL, etc. I don't think the Colts want to give Manning's legacy to someone else.

Agreed. The team that gives 3 1st's for Luck is a team that won't win a Super Bowl in the next 100 years.

The Colts are screwed right now.

They have a $28 million dollar option bonus due Manning early next year, and he becomes a free agent if it isn't picked up.

How in the world can you spend that kind of coin to pick up the rest of his deal if he misses the whole year.

At the same time, can you really afford to just let him walk not knowing what he has left?

Now that it is looking like a sure thing the Colts will draft first, they have some major decisions to start making.

Well, I know legally there has been some behind the scenes going on. Peyton admitted he wasnt healthy when he signed the contract, even though the doctors cleared him from basic stuff. They didnt make him run drills, which would have shown it. Colts may be able to get out of any and all bonuses and options until Manning suits up.

I think Wheedon is better than Barkley. Barkley is having a great year...so far....but he was just average in other years.

He has progressed the way I expect a QB to progress in college and without being able to throw to Blackman. Also, not that OSU runs a gimmick offense, but it isnt going to translate as well as USCs will.

What can you even get for Manning at this point? Is he tradable? Will the fans accept that?

IMO, you cant have Luck and Manning when you have so many other holes to fill to even be competitive.

Aaron Rodgers is maybe the best QB in the NFL right now after sitting for 4 years behind Brett Favre......

Imagine what Andrew Luck could do sitting behind and learning from Manning for 3-4 years.....

Sweet JESUS, it would more than likely be like someone cloned Manning and put his robot out there.

If they dont draft Luck, they would be a FOOL, and if Luck doesn't want to learn from the best, shame on him!

Plus, lets not forget Luck isnt necessarily in any rush to play in the NFL. Now, sitting in the NFL is different than PLAYING in college. But he clearly isnt in a rush to become a well paid stud NFL QB, otherwise hed be playing for the Panthers right now.

I also think people need to stop looking at this as a 3-4 year window for the Colts. The single most important piece to a team is a QB. The Colts will have there for 25 years in a row (minus this year) by drafting Luck. Taking someone else may be the short term benefit for Indy with Peyton behind center. But in 3 years when Peyton is gone or deteriorated a shell of his 2000-2009 form they will be QB less and not have much of a future at that point. Take Luck, deal with other issues later. Dont worry about the next 4 years. Set your franchise up for success for the next 15 years.

Wherever Luck is drafted, I don't see him sitting "3 or 4 years." He'll be on the field by his second year if not starting right out of the gate.

GM Bill Polian stated that Peyton Manning is all for the Colts drafting a QB in RD 1 if they decide to go that route. Who knows if that part is true, but the statement makes it seem as though the Colts are already looking into Luck.

I am more sold on Luck though based on the offense they run and his intangibles he seems to have. Both can make the throws, or so it seems. I like that Stanford runs a power game with like 3 TEs, and he still has a lot of success.
The thing I like about Luck, is the fact that, like Peyton, he makes the players around him successful. Manning makes average players look really good, because 95% of the time, he has them in the play that allows them to succeed. Luck does much the same thing with an average Stanford team. He's an on the field co-ordinator, and usually has his guys running a play that will be successful. Alot of guys have strong arms or can run, but the intangibles are what win Super Bowls.

As I mentioned earlier, here's your price (three 1st's, two 2nd's)...

If the Colts deal this pick and keep Peyton Manning, then the Cleveland Browns will be the frontrunner to land Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck’s dad Oliver Luck played high school football in Cleveland.
The Browns have the King’s Ransom of picks that the Colts would demand for Luck. Cleveland could offer both of their 2012 first rounders, a 2013 first rounder, a 2012 2nd rounder, and a 2013 2nd rounder or Colt McCoy as a successor to Peyton Manning down the road.


Adam Schefter stated on Sunday NFL Countdown that the team trading for Luck would have to offer 3 1st round picks and 2 2nd round picks for Luck. The only teams with the luxury of executing this trade are the Cleveland Browns, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the New England Patriots. These 3 teams have 2 2012 first round picks and a 3rd 2013 first round pick that they could use if they wanted to deal the pick to move up.


Cincinnati has Andy Dalton and New England probably would not give up on Ryan Mallett after one year or draft a quarterback of Luck’s caliber to sit behind Brady for 3 years. Luck will have some leverage if a team deals the pick and multiple teams want him. By process of elimination this means that the Cleveland Browns would be the only team who would have the ammunition trade up for Andrew Luck.

I don't want Luck if we have to trade 3 1sts and 2 2nds. That's 5 top tier players for 1 top tier player. Not worth it.
