Yep, given the current landscape +1 would possibly be seeing teams playing each other for the 3rd time...= bad idea

jordo212000;979193 wrote:What's not going to happen? haha the call for a playoff? That's already happening and will only get louder if LSU happens to slip up. How do you make sense of the landscape? LSU lost to Arkansas, Alabama beat Arkansas, LSU beat Alabama, LSU beat Oregon, Oregon beat Stanford, etc.

I think you are seeing phase one with the BCS no longer going to be involved with the crown jewel bowl games. Somebody is in their (BCS) ear. Odd that they would throw themselves on the sword and back away from those games. Something, somebody, or some people is driving that.

A playoff will happen and it's years like this that prove that one is needed. There is no way anybody can make sense of all this. How do you decide who plays in that game? Millions are at stake and you want those left up to a couple of computers and coaches who watch a handful of games each week? haha ok
The call for a playoff has been as loud as it is going to get (until an undefeated Big Ten team is left out and the Big Ten decides it wants a playoff). If a non-conference champion Oklahoma getting in over Pac 10 champ USC, an undefeated Auburn missing out, a 2-loss team making the title game (over like five other 1-2 loss teams), and having five undefeated teams heading into the bowl games didn't inspire the change, not much else is going to.

There's been plenty of years in which other teams had gripes and the people that matter have never cared. There will always be controversy. There will always be talk that "this is the year that proves we need a playoff" and there will always be policy makers saying, "no thanks".

That the BCS is considering ditching "BCS Bowls" is NOT a move in the direction of a playoff, it is a move back to the old system with the added bonus of a title game. That way, the big boys can go get their own money from bowls and not have to worry about the look of "being fair" to Boise State, et al, any more.

Yes, I shouldn't say "always" or "never". It is just a lot further off than some/most want/hope/think.

Uhm yeah, the pending lawsuits by the small conferences. The BCS only doing 1 vs 2 has nothing to do with a playoff.

Now what team or QB does LSU have to worry about? Oh thats right, Ole Miss in the upset today.
So I guess you're responding to the trolls again? That's good, because I have a bet for you.

That was the royal "you." Just saying that that alone will eventually lead to a change. With as much money being won and lost, there is no way that this format is going to be allowed to continue. Far too much money changes hands for a subjective format to decide the matchup.

Why do teams schedule during the week games? How many times have there been upsets on week nights? This is the first year that proves they need a playoff. Alot of good 1 loss teams. The coming weeks could show more why we need a playoff.

Va tech always plays the worst bowl game.

There needs to be a rule that if you don't win your conference, you can't play in the bcs nt game. It's ridiculous to think we will have to possibly watch that crap feat of a game again. Let alone hear the hype for over a month.
It's LSU

Everyone else

I'm not sure there is even another great team after lsu. Some good ones. But nobody else sticks out over the other.

It doesnt matter if people dont want to see a rematch(i really dont, even though i think it would be a better game on the eyes) All of the other teams are shitting the bed big time losing games they shouldnt. Bama deserves a rematch as of now.

With all the losing over the past few days, I'm afraid the Bama rematch is really the only option at this point

I like your picks except I think Boise St. gets in before michigan does.

No way. Boise should get in before Michigan, but will not because the bowl would need to an invite them. Attendance and tv ratings will make Michigan (or any other traditional power) get an invite before them. Schools like Boise need to be ranked highly in order to get that automatic entry

Arkansas can't beat LSU.....hmmm, I've heard that before.

That being said I completely agree LSU is just flat out better...but pressure does things. Arkansas losing would be a BCS nightmare.

All 3 teams would have complete arguments.

The Bama OT loss at LSU vs Bama beating Arkansas by multiple TD might be the ultimate factor......and that would give Bama vs Georgia....what if Bama or LSU loses to Georgia??? Lol

Regardless......no way Bama doesn't get in the national game IMO (unless Auburn knocks them off)

I can't see Arkansas getting the #1....can't see Bama in anything but #1 or #2....IMO LSU losing to Arkansas would put them at #3...and hoping for a Georgia win in SEC Championship

What I think is going to happen is Arkansas is going to beat LSU. Alabama goes to the SEC Championship game and loses. Leaving Stanford and Oklahoma State to play for the true national title.

The Mountain West isn't a BCS conference so the point you're trying to make is void.

If a non bcs champion is ranked higher than a bcs automatic qualifier champion, that team is guaranteed a spot. I don't know the exact wording of the rule and I think they have to be in the top 15 or something as well, but his point isn't void.

Edit: I don't think its guaranteed, just that they are eligible. Guaranteed if they get to the top 4 (?) of the BCS rankings.

You can see it two different ways. They dont get an automatic BCS birth but they can make a BCS game if they have a team worthy.
