When it said the GA went to Paterno's house the next day, it sounded different. You knew it wasn't just your average GA to be able to go over to the HC's house.

Also saw where Paterno is testifying on behalf of the prosecutor. This is all really weird.

Rumor has it out there it was Mike McQueary (the red headed former QB who is still on the coaching staff).

The NCAA doesn't have any rules against child molestation.

Rules against selling your stuff they've got.

From a Washington Post column:

[LEFT]"Paterno and university officials knew they hadn’t employed a defensive coordinator; they had in effect empowered a sexual predator, who the report says spent the next seven years molesting more boys.

And because they possibly chose to protect Penn State’s brand instead of a child — a 10-year-old kid whom they never even bothered to find out the name of, according to the grand jury report — more children might have suffered because of their silence.

If the grand jury report is true, they all need to step down — even the great Joe Pa. It’s the least he could do.

For however long shame and guilt hover over his last days at Penn State it will never outlast the shame and guilt felt by those young boys. Nor will it bring back their innocence. Like the sheen of Joe Pa’s program, that may well be gone forever."

The fallout that Penn State is going to have, reputation and otherwise, is going to be huge. The NCAA doesn't even need to be involved. The media can and probably will do more damage to that program than anything the NCAA could do short of the death penalty.

Nothing about this story signals an ending that is even remotely good for Penn State. This really snaps NCAA 'violations' like those at OSU or USC into perspective.

Sandusky suddenly retired in 1999 when he was 55.
The reported molestation occured in 2002.
The grad assistant who saw it didn't call the police.
The grad assistant told JoPa
JoPa didn't call the police.
JoPa tells the AD.
The AD didn't call the police.
The AD told his boss.
The AD's boss didn't tell the police.
Who knows how for this went up the chain of command.
From 2002 to 2011 NO ONE at Penn State ever calls the police.
From 2002 to 2011 JoPa never asked what happened about the molestation that occurred in HIS locker room??? IMPOSSIBLE
OR JoPa did ask, was told and has kept his mouth shut like a good solder, as did the dozen or so other good soldiers. MUCH MORE likely.

Why did Sandusky suddenly retire in 1999? Obviously his proclivity was first discover in 1999 and he was told to retire then.

This will end up being worse than the Catholic Church's molester Priests and how they were covered up.

Spanier's (PSU President) statement:

"The allegations about a former coach are troubling, and it is appropriate that they be investigated thoroughly. Protecting children requires the utmost vigilance. With regard to the other presentments, I wish to say that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz have my unconditional support. I have known and worked daily with Tim and Gary for more than 16 years. I have complete confidence in how they have handled the allegations about a former University employee.Tim Curley and Gary Schultz operate at the highest levels of honesty, integrity and compassion. I am confident the record will show that these charges are groundless and that they conducted themselves professionally and appropriately."

Three words: What. An. Idiot. The guy should be fired Monday morning for making this statement. He is personally confident that his cronies did nothing wrong and that the grand jury and police are just simply wrong. It's ok to think that, but an official statement? This is the biggest college sports scandal I've ever seen. There is too much smoke in the jury's release to think that Sandusky did nothing - whatever he did (and if all the allegations are correct they are truly heinous) it continued to happen due to these guys' cowardice.

Allegations about Sandusky first came about in 1998. I'm guessing that probably factors into the sudden retirement in 1999.

What's inexplicable to me in all of this is that, if he retired amid allegations, why was he allowed to retain an office on campus and allowed access to the Penn State facilities and program? Joe Paterno RUNS State College, PA. He says 'jump' and everyone in Central Pennsylvania is in the air before he finishes getting out the words. If he didn't want Jerry Sandusky around his program, using his facilities, etc. Jerry Sandusky would not be using them.

It is truly inexplicable. Guys in power KNEW they had a monster on their hands and not only didn't stop him but enabled to him to continue his predatory behavior - in their buildings!

The NCAA has no rules against child molestation. What this proves is WHY Penn State has never had any major violations. Penn State is WAY better than other NCAA schools at coverups.

PSU is in for a major shakeup in their athletics department. This whole scenario is sickening, and after reading the Grand Jury Report, I am stunned that this was kept a secret for as long as it was. IMO, JoePa will meet the same fate as Coach Tressel, and that is being forced out under the umbrella of scandal. I don't now how Paterno could sleep at night knowing that this sick behavior had happened under his watch by one of his own, and nothing was being done about it to bring this pervert to justice. No fucking excuse. None.

Of course not, everyone knows that selling your own stuff is FAR FAR worse than child molestation. Remember we need to keep a fair playing field and not worry about other things./hyperbole

This likely has been going on at Notre Dame for centuries. We'll never know though since ND is the best at covering up scandals being a private institution and all.
